After having 2 pigs that have needed dental's occasionally, when I got home and gave Patrick some pepper I realised he couldn't eat after further inspection this is what I found.

I don't think anybody should mess about with guinea pig's teeth but I wanted to share this image as this was preventing Patrick from picking up his food.

Now it has been removed his teeth appear to be reverting back to how they should be.

My goodness! Thats good you discovered it.....What a clear photo.

Do you feed him museli...?
Looks like it could be one of the yellow flakes...
How scarey...
Good news that it's gone back to the norm now...

ah bless him, he's a good piggie to let you take it out

To be honest it wasn't wedge but I can't believe it managed to separate his incisor's, it took me 2 seconds to get it out. I do however have a good patient, I must stress any difficulty at all he would be at the vets, as guinea pig's teeth should not be messed with.

He had corn on the cob last night thinking that may have been what it was.

OMG! That is an amazing picture, he's such a good lad for letting you get it out. Well done for spotting it, can't believe something like that could get inbetween the incisors... Must have been uncomfy for him.

My goodness Patrick! A little enthusiastic with your corn on the cob were you? Well spotted and glad he's so good and let you take it out.

Awww Patrick! He really doesn't have the best of luck - thank goodness he has you as his slave Jo, and thank goodness you noticed so quickly! Bless him!

On Tuesday Patrick's 7 day weigh in he lost 28 grams, last night when I saw him struggling to eat I weighed him and he was down another 20 grams sporting his lowest weight of 820 grams, this morning I weighed him and he's 902 grams! I guess it really was giving him trouble.

Checked his teeth again and they are back to normal.

Aw poor lad, that must have been so uncomfortable, i know i hate it when i get a little apple skin or something stuck between my teeth yet it doesn't cause a gap like that, thank goodness you spotted it, and what a good boy, i was trying to get a pic of my boys teeth last night he was not impressed and was not playing ball, i have a wonky blurry photo lol.

Well done for being such a good observant mummy.

Bert was at the vets yesterday and as routine she checked in his mouth and it was crammed with old food around his back teeth. So i Supose these sort of thing happens, as it does when we get food stuck between our teeth.
Also Barney was doing lots of cough/splutters, he was going to the vets too, but he managed to clear it on his own, I recon he had something stuck in there too?

Aww poor Patrick, that looks like it must have been very uncomfortable! Good job he's already on painkillers I guess.

At least his teeth have gone back to normal and he's ok now.

Give him a cuddle from me.

Like humans - I'm sure food and water can go down the wrong way, Wilma often does that little cute cough when she clears her throat. Generally speaking guinea pig's always have some food in there mouth, I've never witnessed the food stuck between the incisor's like in Patrick's photograph.

It was really obvious as Patrick couldn't pick any food up and could only eat small bite size pieces with his back teeth, when Fred had dental problems I looked at his teeth and seen they where slanted which is why I checked Patrick's teeth to discover what I did.

I will weigh him tonight again - I left him with a big bowl of CC I'm sure he's in heaven right now with all that yummy food to eat! X

It happened to one of our piggies when I was a teenager. He was fine as soon as we removed the offending bit between the teeth. But it always pays to watch your piggies eating in case something gets stuck somewhere!

a very similar thing happened to my graham (rip) He was pulling all sorts of faces one afternoon, and when I had a look in his mouth there was literally a chunk of wood stuck between his bottom teeth! :... I think he had chewed his wooden log and got it stuck that way.

He let me remove it very gently, it took a while to dislodge it though! his teeth went straight back to normal and his eating was normal afterward too, so on that occasion he was fine, it was a shock though! Thank goodness he pulled his funny faces!
