Today i've noticed Esme has lots of black "bits" in her hair, mainly around her neck.  The only way i can describe it is like flea dirt.  I've seen nothing's move & she's got no hairloss & isn't scratching.
She has had mites & is due her 3rd dose of Ivomec tomorrow & the more i tried to get rid of them, the more there seemed to be.

What could it be?  Dirt?  :-\

Could be parasite poo :) Give her a Melt and a shampoo as well as the Ivomec and she should be fine :)

Do you know what a roan, salmation or an agouti is ? - Its probably the breed and they have like black or dark brown hair that looks like bits at the end of the hair.
What breed is Esme ? :)

She's mostly white with lemon agouti patches.  It's not flecking in her hair these are proper "bits" cos i can "flick" them out, they look exactly like flea dirt :)

This is Esme as you can see she doesn't have any "flecks" in her white bits

Oh yeah - shes lovely - Maybe if you take a picture of the dirt or bits then we could tell you - Sorry i just thought you were new to guinea pigs or something and probably thought like agoutis hair was the bits you were referring to or something. Is that an old picture or new ? So am i right in thinking that thats before the bits was there ? 98) :)

Thank you. :) That was taken bout a week ago.  You are right in thinking there were no bits there before, i didn't see any on sunday, they were there yesterday & there's less again today ;D

OoOoOoh i am really unsure then as to what the bits are ? Very confused ;D As long as they are going ? Well have you changed her to a new bedding or hay ?

Have you cleaned her ears out recently? Hamish my sow is a mucky eared piggie and it sounds like wax :)

I did think it could've been ear mites but i had a cotton bud on her ears, not inside them & nothing, however, she's going to the vets tomorrow as she's not seemed herself for the past couple of days so i'm going to ask them to take a look inside  :)

No not saying its ear mites just extra wax hun just access wax falling out the ears :) Like I said Hamish my minx has it give the ears a little clean see if helps :)
Hope all goes well at the vets let us know what they say :)

Ahhh tell us how she gets on after the vets ! ? Hope its nothing serious ! :-\

Otodex from SPH Supplies or good pet shops is good for ear mites, if she has ear mites then you need to treat for specifically. Wouldn't hurt to treat her anyways (on a different day to the Ivomec :) )

I have some :)  I got them from Thistle Cavies for Howie because he had a tilt which has now righted itself, tho' he did hate having them put in  ;D

Esme has "a bug." :( Her chest sounded "muffly" & her stomach was empty, she & Hamish are now on 0.5ml Baytril til Monday when we go back, the "bits" have now gone & thankfully her ears are fine :)

Ahhh bless - Hope they get better soon :smitten: :smitten:
