Our friends guinea pig has a black crust round his lips. It looks fungal and is predominate on the top lip.
I would post a picture but it isn't our guinea and I have been asked to ask the forum (who I talk about regularly) because no one knows what it is!
Thank you any help appreciated.

A photo would really help, though ideally she needs to take him to the vet as we can't really diagnose over the internet. My first thought would be Chelitis, which can be fungal but can also be caused by acididic fruit. I could not say for certain without a photo though.

my guess is also cheilitis, a fungal or bacterial lip infection that is caused by too much acid (i.e. fruit and tomato) in the diet, which is causing tiny cracks in the lip and mouth area through which bacteria and fungal spores can get in. The colour of the crust depends to some extent on the colour of the skin.
