I noticed today that Eliza has a black hard patch underneath her middle toe on her back foot. I have felt it and it just feels like a piece of skin but is black. I have looked at the other girls feet and they also have small skin pockets but are not black.

I have felt it and rubbed it and it isn't bothering Eliza or causing her discomfort. I am wondering if it could be a blood blister of some sort or something else? I did't want to mess with it too much in case it is a blister.

Her nails were cut a few weeks ago and the vet didn't say anything about her feet.

Would you be able to get pics, Claire? Not sure from the sounds of things but a pic might help, if you can get one. :)

I can't get one at the minute and I am at work first thing, they are then off to holiday boarding when I get home :( It is on the pad right underneath where the nail is. I have examined the foot and it doesn't look swollen or anything. I am worrying now about bumble foot but I thought that wouldn't be near the toe and would be uncomfortable for her when it was touched? Chris says it looks like she has either caught it or it is dry skin.

Thanks Wiebke. The black bit worried me at first but it doesn't look like that and her foot isn't swollen. Would it be swollen and would it be under her toe if it was bumble foot?

Yes, these things always happen at inconvenient times mallethead

Hi my Guinea pig has this my vet said it was nothing to worry about and to just leave it alone. Julie

Bumblefoot does include swelling, yes. It could just be a small scab, Errol had one that wouldn't clear up for weeks on the side of his foot:
