Rosie (5+ years) has had issues with calcium her entire life. At the end of March she had an 8mm bladder stone surgically removed after a relentless fight to get it to pass on its own. It started growing very aggressively and was tearing up Rosie’s bladder, we had an emergency surgery. Recovery went incredibly well. Her diet is low calcium and she’s on bottled water + glycosamine.
I heard a “bad squeak” a week ago when she was using the bathroom. Immediately booked a vet trip.
At the vets we had an ultrasound where the vet saw a lot of sludge and possibly a very small stone. I consented to a urine sample taking (with a syringe) but without my knowledge she decided to use a catheter as Rosie’s bladder was very empty. She used a small one and a larger one, both were blocked by the sludge. She got no sample. We took a urine sample with another vet back in March and it came back clean of any bacteria, this vet really wants to take it again.
It has been 4 days since the vet appointment. Rosie cries a little when using the bathroom, and there is some blood. I don’t know if it’s normal after a catheter. Her weight has dropped 50g over 1 week. Today she is more secluded and not her usual self. We have a follow-up in 7 days.
I don’t know what to do. I have upped the water intake, she’s on pain meds and extra glycosamine. When do I know it is an emergency, when do I know it is time to let her go
