Harley, our cuddly monster nomster has been diagnosed as suffering with bladder sludge almost 2 years after he had a stone removed :(
Exotic vet has put him on Septrin, Metacam and Ranitidine for two weeks but has to go for an x-ray early part of next week just to be certain a stone has not manifested itself again 8... Vet couldn't feel one after palpations of bladder but I want to be sure.
Harley is fine in himself, just noticed him squeaking and haunching mid morning on Thursday a few times, the symptoms he had with a stone so took him to our vet asap. No blood or further squeaking followed but couldn't take any risks.
Have banned all veggies now with calcium and as he's not the best bottle piggy, am attempting to get water into him with his cranberry juice as often as I can...he loathes syringes and tries to fight them off so am in for a battle with this little devil again and feel rotten about it all :(
Vet says he may need a bladder washout doing and gave him fluids last night and first dose of antibiotics via injection - resembled a camel when he bought him back in to me and was traumatised 8... Poor baby,he was so happy to get back to his brother Chops and his cosy house last night, straight into the hay basket then skulked off into his fleece tunnel clearly wanting to be left alone rolleyes

Is it advisable to give probiotic alongside the Zantac ? Have Fibreplex here in case he needs it.
You know all the questions you don't think of at the time...mallethead

Harley is three in July, weighs 1670g - we've had him from 5 weeks old and they were our first piggies x)
Any advice for us slaves and Harley would be so appreciated x>>

Aww Trace, Sorry to hear Harley is poorly :(

It is fine to give pro-biotics while on zantac. May be worth giving avi-pro plus as opposed to fibreplex though, as it can be sprinkled on food if he doesn't like the syringe. Can drop you a bit round tomorrow of you want x

Understand you getting an xray sorted, best just to recheck on the stone front. Lots of love and healing vibes to Harley x x

My Jerry had his bladder flushed out in May last year, but he still suffers with sludge. We manage his symptoms with a daily dose of Metacam, Cystaid and Dibenyline. I know how worrying and stressful it can be. Jerry has good and bad days now. Some days he'll be fine, and will have lots of squeak-free wees. Other days he squeaks when he wees/poos. Occasionally he'll have blood in his urine (he is currently going through a difficult few days with blood-tinged wees).

If you want any info then feel free to pm me. Hugs for Harley :) x

How is Harley feeling?

Hi :)p
Harley is good thank you, having his meds and eating gusto thankfully - ordered some of the Aviroplus probiotic as getting a bit low on Fibreplex but thank you so much for your very kind offer :)) Poop stalking but perfect so far :(|)
Has been pottering around as normal and enjoys his lap and cuddle time until I pick the syringes up rolleyes Has been having run time on the sofa so am hoping he may associate the two and stop doing a 360 degree head turn ;)
How is Treacy doing, give the girls a hug from me x>>

Poor little lad :( It's a shame he hates the syringe so much! Please let us know how he gets on. Is it Shifnal your going to? Treacle is ok, lost a little weight but ok. Keeping close on on her.

Going back to the syringe, does he not like the taste of his metacam? Cookie could develop a serious habit lol.... Think she may be a junkie pig :))
Give Harley a big cuddle from us and big hugs to you, I know how much they mean to you. x x

He's fine with the Metacam and Septrin, it's the Zantac he doesn't like but finishes that tomorrow luckily :)
We go to Taylor and Marshall in Shifnal now as they are linked to the Connaught opposite us - they are fantastic and charged me £31 for Harley's consultation and three lots of meds...must have been in there a good half hour and he had antibiotic jab and fluids injected as well so their prices are as amazing as their piggy skills :)
Sure Treacy will put her weight back on, such a worry at times :(
Will give Harley a hug from you when he has his evening meds. as he's plonked out on his heat pad atm zzz rolleyes

Harley has his x-ray booked for first thing in the morning and surgery immediately if he has a stone :(
You wouldn't think there was anything wrong as he's his usual self and no nasty effects from the meds. so far (day 4) He's also drinking more as we moved his bottle nearer to his pellet dish and hay basket so seems to have helped :)
Was much better 'behaved' when syringing him this morning so think he's getting used to them now :x
Just praying our boy doesn't need another op 8...

Will be thinking of your both, fingers crossed for no stone. Its got to be positive news that he is well in himself. Lots of healing vibes to him x x

Glad he is getting better with the syringe. Can't believe he doesn't like his Septrin, we call it 'banana yum yums' :))

Please let us know how he gets on. Anything we can do to help tracy, just let us know x

I'm amazingly calm about this...meeee....calm over my piggies :x Usually in total bits but have every faith in the vet we use so has made me more confident and Harley's a big lad, just acts like a baby whimpering when I pick him up then chases his brother for face off's the second he's back in his pen rolleyes
Thanks for your support, must be something in the air with these bladders ?/
No matter how clean you keep the pen, they're so prone to bugs :(

Do we have a pigture of the lovely boy? ;)

Possibly my fave one of Harley...such a comical character :) He used to squeeze inside this then popcorn so the whole thing would bounce around the pen mallethead :(|) Had to move it to the upper level to keep him safe :x

He's such a handsome boy x) thinking of you tomorrow and fingers crossed for your little man x

Our little man is at the Vet having his x-ray and whatever subsequent treatment he may require - if it's a stone, they will operate immediately but Vet seemed confident he may only require a bladder washout :( he's been responding well to his meds. but did squeak once this morning when having a poop, first time since Thursday :(
Have to call at 2.30pm for update so am praying he doesn't need surgery but he's in such good hands at Taylor and Marshall in Shifnal, got his fave veggies in his lunch box, romaine, dill and watermelon, Timothy hay and his cranberry juice bottle.
Am making a fuss of Chops, his brother as he's looking a bit lost without him and I'm clock watching...:(

It's so awful when they're in for the day and you're left clock-watching. I know it's easier said than done, but try to keep busy and distracted. I really hope all goes well x

Fingers crossed. Waiting is the worst part :(

Hugs x

Called Vets and Harley is not round from his GA - won't tell me what has happened but to ring back at 4.30 to speak to Vet..obviously has had surgery of some kind and am thinking tumours now ?
In absolute hysterics here for my boy...he was running around this morning...what have I done ?
OH has just come home but the clock is going backwards.

Try not to panic. You have absolute trust in your vet, who would only have done whatever was necessary to help your boy. Whatever has needed to happen, you can deal with and he'll be back to full health in no time xx

Aww Trace, try not to think the worst. Your vets are very very good. Please don't beat yourself up Harley had to go to the vets and whatever the x-ray showed up would have to have been dealt with, you can't be harsh on yourself for this. Keeping everything crossed for your little boy, if you need anything or want to chat, you've got my number x x

Thanks Lee, I'm so sorry, meant to ask how Treacy is ? All this madness here has rocked me and feeling numb...can't stop shaking :(
I'm so scared to call again as the nurse mentioned they may need to keep him overnight but as you say, we have Harley's best interests at heart...I'm feeling lousy because I was quite flippant earlier and over confident it was nothing serious as he has been so 'normal'. His pen's all clean ready for him and just want him home if it means being up 24/7 to watch him.

Have a hug, If he does need to stay over night, he will have the best care possible and be monitored by nurses. Really hope you can get him back tonight, let us know when you find out. x x

Just spoken to Vet...WHOO HOO - Harley is fine ! :(|) :(|) :(|)
