bladder stone removal

I’ve merged all your threads together. Please do keep to this thread so that everything is in once place.

I’m sorry to hear that this has happened.

Is she alert but just not chewing?
sorry!
yes she chews a little but when i try to open her mouth it looks like she has some in there so in scared to give her any more?

I normally do a 3rd of a syringe at a time and let them eat and swallow that, then syringe some more.
thank you, yesterday she seemed to have stop chewing her food i was shringing so it was hard to know weather to feed or not as it was just staying in her mouth! i always do 2-3ml at a time in the side of her cheek

Sending you hugs. It’s so stressful when they are poorly. You’re doing a great job. How’s her weight? Was she eating ok at the vets?

what is normally recommended please for a guinea getting over bladder surgery whose gone off hay but is still eating everything else? she is not completely stopped on hay, but its very reduced and struggling to get enough critical care in! are there any meds / injections etc or anything i can ask for from vets? we have an appointment this afternoon!

I’m sorry to hear this

She needs the syringe feed to replace hay intake. It’s good she is still eating other things but it doesn’t count as jointly veg and pellets are only 15% of daily intake.

An alternative recovery feed (so a different taste) or adding in mushed pellets may help.

Gut stimulants such as emeprid and pain meds would be needed

I hope she is ok

she is on all of this currently, its not that she doesn’t like the critical care, its more just the time it takes to give it (10 mins for 1ml) she is only a small pig and doesn’t have a very big mouth!

I’ve merged back with your original thread so everything is in one place.

They can only take up to 0.3ml in their mouths at a time.

Is she otherwise alert?

yes, shes her normal cheeky self, a tad tired but so is luna - we’ve travelled a lot too and form the vets the past week and i think its done them in a bit!

been recommended to try feed my della some oats during her recovery in hopes it will help her re-gain her appetite! can anyone share for my peace of mind what oats would be suitable? just old style rolled oats? or something else? (this is not a permanent solution, just something we are trying to see if we notice a difference!)

They can have a small amount of plain porridge oats (but it cannot replace hay intake or syringe feed). They’re more of a calorific boost to weight than anything else

Id not give more than a tablespoon or so in a day so yes a teaspoon a couple of times would be fine.

I’d just put them in a bowl so you can see if she’s eating them given she is unwell

My older boys used to get some during winter as a boost!

You’re doing great. Just keep going. I find after a syringe feed they get a bit of an appetite back for a short while. So I used to do the syringe feed and then keep them on my lap with a pile of hay right in front of them. Try a bit of clean grass too. Not too much in case it sets off her tummy.

does anyone know if slightly squeaky toilets are normal after this surgery? I'm assuming so as its the bladder but i just want to double check!

My Joeys vet recommended Alfavet UROCare after Joe had his stone removed. Sadly Joe didn't wake up so I haven't tried just that product, but I use other products from Alfavet and think its very good (akut and multivitamines). You can find it on Amazon. All love for you and Della 💜

My vet said its very normal for a week or two even after a removal. If you think she's in very much pain, contact the vet and discuss her pain relief.

0,3ml metacam
0.09 gabapentin
Depending on her weight the vet could probably have some scope to up the metacam. Is the metacam dog strength and twice a day?

I don’t have experience with gabapentin sorry.

her prescription 0.3ml was when she was 1kg (she has ongoing issues, IC etc so we have constant access to metacam) currently though she’s only 800g😪 so i think they didnt want to put her meds up. iv seen people use bubrecare and tramadol so I'm going to ask
