Bladder Stone Surgery - Second Time Around?

Hi, not always so, l had a boar that went 48 hours of a bank holiday weekend before l could find a vet
"Willing'" to cafitoize him , and he displayed no pain indicators what so ever , the only way l knew he had
Not been weeing was when l cleaned his cage there was a distinct lack of wee on the newspaper under

Great news! here are our post-op care tips, if you want a refresher: Tips For Post-operative Care

Sadly, once you have a stone, the only way is an operation. One of my piggies has made it through two ops, but that was nearly ten years ago, so much riskier than today and with so much less knowledge what to do about reducing the risks of a return. Unfortunately, there is a range of factors involved, including a genetic disposition and problems durint eh complicated calcium absorption process, so while some cases can be caused by problems with the nutrition, other factors cannot be well controlled.

He's a bit wobbly still but he has had some food, and a poo. He had done a wee in the travel box, it was a bit bloody but I suppose that's only to be expected.
I have set up a convalescent ward next to the piggy palace. Nurse Pudding is on the case. I don't think Nurse Pixie is trying to help though :) Panda can talk to Tufty & Geraldine, but be able to sleep in peace. I have Metacam and some Recovery powder, and the plan is to take him back on Friday for a wound check. Obviously if he has a problem he will go back sooner.

I also paid the bill, I owed some for one of the ponies also so altogether it was rather a lot. Thank God for credit cards :)

All piggies hiding in this pic, but they will soon come out once they get used to the new arrangement. I give it about an hour :)

He's done some wee :) And it's not bloody :) :)
I had a look at the wound this morning and it looks OK - no swelling or redness. I'll look again later when I give him his Recovery food. He is eating really well, I'm tempting him with all his favourites and he likes that a lot. I've also seen him eating hay, and some Readigrass. He's much more awake today, but is resting a lot too which is what he needs.

Thank you so much to all of you who shared your positive stories here, you gave me a lot of hope over the past few days.
 
He's just been out for a second wound inspection (looking very good, better than this morning) and some Recovery (he ate two syringes of that), he's sleeping that off now :)
He's not eating as much as usual but he is eating fairly often, and a good variety of things too. Hopefully these are all good signs. Anyway, here's a pic of him having a treat after his syringe feed. A bit blurry but I don't like to use the flash so close up.

Hi. I've just joined this forum.
I think I have the same problem with my pig. He had an op to remove bladder stones (3 were removed) and he recovered well. But less than 3 months later he is squeaking in pain when he wees and has blood in his urine. He's at the vets today. I'm so worried as he's just under 2 years old. Reading these comments makes me have hope that he will make it through the xray and another op. I've taken notes on the advice given on here too. So thank you for your help.

Think we are going to need it. Strudel just came back from the vets. He has two new stones! Crazy that he needs another op only 3 months previously having 3 bladder stones removed. The vet is on holiday so little pig is booked in weds morning. He's on medication. We've bought a water filter and I've changed his diet to ultra low calcium. You should heard him squeak in pain though when he pees! I'm just going to look after him the very best I can - clean cage, hand fed, filter water, his med and lots of cuddles. I've done all I can for now.

TAN's post on page one of this thread would interest you I think. Her little pig had 4 ops for this in a year so it's not unknown for this to happen. There are some good tips on TAN's post for things you can do to slow down the formation of stones.
If your piggy is anything like mine he will be a bit quiet for a few days after the op - I hope he makes a good recovery.

Does the vet know why the stones have formed again so soon. I hope the recovery is quick.
 
Keep an eye on his weight and monitor his urine output. If he starts producing less urine or none at all then the stones may be causing a blockage- in that instance id contact the vet as he will need his op sooner.
