One of my guinea pigs has a very swollen bladder and is in a lot of pain. I've brought it up the last three times I've been to the vets (it was the same vet every time) but she didn't think it was serious. However I've just come back from the vets (different vet) and she took action straightaway. Lola has been in a lot of pain and squeaks extremely loudly when she's passing urine and her bladder is very hard and sensitive. They've taken her straightway for an x-ray and I'm very worried as it could likely be a bladder stone. Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing or give me advice while I wait? And has anyone had bladder stone surgery before? And price in the UK? Unsure if I can afford it... Thank you
Edit: The guinea pigs aren't insured.

The only experience I have with bladder stones is a bad one unfortunately. My late Sam had one in his urethra and unfortunately had to be PTS as it couldn’t be operated on.I know quite a few members have had pigs that have came through the operation though.I'm not sure of the cost, I imagine between £200 and £300.Fingers crossed it’s not a bladder stone.Ill tag @Jaycey for you x

Hope your little one doesn't have a bladder stone. With regards to price I would say anywhere up to £500 for an operation to remove a stone. None of my piggies are insured. I just have to take the bills on the chin unfortunately. Stones can be removed successfully by a good skilled vet and veterinary team, I would ensure you have confidence in your vet before going ahead. Done quite a few of them and many do well providing well prior to the surgery. The ones who don't are often very ill already.

Thinking of you.

@Claire72 Depending on where the stone is the vet may be able to work it out if it's in her urethra.

My avatar pig had 2 bladder stone surgeries and he recovered fine after them both. He was a bit sore and bled a little bit, and he had to have Metacam for a while but he was okay. The vet I used was a fairly expensive exotics vet and he charge us around £400 each time.

Have a read up on the forum about diet changes and how to limit formation of stones and if you need any further information on my experiences just give me a shout.
