Hi folks, my boy Albert had bladder stones and an operation to remove them last year. The operation went well but he struggled through recovery and I swore off any further major procedures for him. I even found him a spayed sow to avoid having to go through neutering after his buddy died.

Sadly, however the stones are back.

We got a new vet late last year (cavvy-savvy and lovely) and he's fairly positive about operating. I have two weeks to get his condition better and am supplemental feeding, giving painkillers and emeprid twice daily. However his weight today has dropped and he looks lousy.

Do I ask to bring the operation forward or dose up on painkillers and send him off when they don't work any more?

We've lost so many special pigs recently and I don't know whether my heart can take it either way. He's so special and he's only been with his wife a few months and are so sweet together.

He was eating off the spoon last night, but is reluctant to even face the syringe today.

I'm so sorry you and Albert are going through this.

I would call the vet and ask about his painmeds. Can you up it, can you give something more or should you try something else? The vet could guide you.

Try to mix something your pig usually cant resist in critical care. When my boys has been in the need of cc and doesn't want to eat I use to mix it with some soaked pellets, banana or press some Apple or cucumberjuice in it. One of my boys always got a little piece of a basil for every 3ml because he did not like critical care, but he learned he got some basil if he ate. They are not stupid.

I’m so sorry Albert has more stones. I agree with @exia. Chat with the vet. He may really perk up with a good dose of pain medication. Sending healing vibes and hugs to you ❤️

Thank you both, I have a call with the vet tomorrow between his appointments. I've given Albert the maximum dose allowed of his loxicom and topped him up with water. His poos are small and wet, but still coming at least.

I will add in some cystark and bribe him with carrot tops to eat his critical care, thank you!

Sending lots of hugs and healing wheeks to you and Albert ❤️ I’ve lost three piggies to bladder issues and it’s always the worst but you’re doing everything you can for him. Hopefully the vet can put up his painkiller and he responds

I gave some readigrass or oats with the critical care to try and keep my boy’s weight up when he was struggling and it went down quite well

I’m so sorry. Thinking of you at this sad time. If he’s had them twice now maybe he’s just genetically prone to them. Sending you hugs. ❤️

Thanks all, he was put to sleep on Thursday. He was a beautiful little soul and gave me piggy kisses while the vet was getting ready.

I am glad he doesn't have to suffer any more, but I really miss him.

I’m sorry you had to help Albert over the rainbow bridge. Popcorn pain free gorgeous boy. ❤️

I am so sorry you had to help Albert cross The Rainbow Bridge 🌈
