Bladder stones

Well still waiting on the hydrangea to come though I got an email to say it had been despatched yesterday so hoping it will come soon.

Laura I don't suppose you found out the dosage for the metacam? I would imagine with it being not as strong as the dog one trying her on the same dose as the dog one wouldn't do any harm but don't just want to go randomly dosing her with it!

We measured out how much the receptionist showed us and it's less then 1ml so I can't see how that would provide any pain relief as it's such a small dose.

Athenas still bleeding unfortunately. I've noticed though that when a spot of blood comes out if she's on the laminate floor she'll then turn around and lick it up ( not pleasant reading I know ) do you think this could be her way of knowing she needs whatevers been lost in the blood?

Sorry I only ever use the dog metacam. Again similar amount to Logiebear. As a guide 0.4mls/kg, but I have taken that up to 0.6mls before for high pain, and reduced it down.

0.5 mg/ml - cat metacam
1.5 mg/ml - dog metacam

Working out from dog metacam amounts, my vet advises 0.4ml/kg = 0.6mg meloxicam

So to give the same cat metacam dosage it would be about 1ml, as 1 ml would give 0.5 mg of meloxicam.

But for high pain as I said I have gone up to 0.6mls/kg which would give 0.9mg meloxicam. Which would be 1.8mls/kg for cat metacam to give the same higher dosagae.

How much does Athena weigh?

Does that make sense? If you are not sure just give the vet a ring.

To make it easier, the cat metacam is a third of the concentration of the dog metcam. So if times the dose recommended for the dog metacam by 3 it should give you the dose for the cat metacam.

I think I can get my head around that Layla! The reason he prescribed the cat one was to be on the safe side really with it not being as strong. Athena weighs 1015g ( did the regular weigh in yesterday ) so does that mean the dosage should be about 1ml with her not being in any obvious pain?

Yes I think that 1 ml is fine, as this is just under the base dosage my vet prescribes and it is what your vet prescribed. You have the scope to increase if the pain does get worse, but can also decrease it if she doesn't seem to need it.

Well the hydrangea root tincture came yesterday so started Athena on it but she HATES it poor little thing. It really doesn't smell that appetizing and after she's had it she pulls this "urgh that disgusting what are you doing to me mam" face. So we're giving her this, followed by the banana flavoured septrin so it takes away the taste followed by a little treat for her being a good girl lol

So now we've started her on that I think I'll order some Ph test strips to see if it's having a positive effect or not.

I'd be interested to know how you get on. I'm so fed up of bladder stones :(

I'm trying Uriflow at the moment on my poor Charlie who has had two operations since Easter. Am still hoping for some improvement...

Aww poor little thing! We haven't had Athena operated on, her weight initially dropped quite a bit and they said she was too weak to make it through the op though she's a good weight now so if we don't see any improvement this way I think I'll ask for an xray to see what we're dealing with and maybe consider the op.
