Hello. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with bladder tumors. My Zelda had an ultrasound today and it showed a growth in her bladder. 😥. My vet is contacting an specialist and will report back to me so e time next week as he doesn't have any experience with them. I just want to know what questions to ask and treatment possibilities. I have been googling and am not finding much good news. She is completely normal besides urinating blood. She doesn't seem to be in pain. No squeaking or straining. She is not losing weight and her behavior has not changed at all. I always end up with these animals that I can't help. Makes me feel terrible.

Aw, I’m so sorry for your sad news. I have no experience at all with bladder issues but you and Zelda are in my thoughts x

Bladder tumours are uncommon but not unheard of in piggies, often they are malignant but I would ask about sampling it to see what sort of prognosis you have. You have to be careful with needle biopsies as it can seed the tumour in other places (though isn't too common). If it's not a nasty one then you could look at either leaving or having it removed.

Good luck. Sorry for your pigs diagnosis.

My doctor was worried about having it biopsied for that reason. Thank you.

Our Fudge had a bladder tumour. She was fine for quite a while before she started to deteriorate. She was on long term Metacam and Cytsease. She let us know when she wanted to go over the Rainbow Bridge; she’s lost a lot of weight, amongst other things.
Best of luck with your piggy, just take each day as it comes :) x

Is cystease like cosequin? I can't find cystease in the United States. Thank you. I had a cat with bladder problems in the past and used cosequin and it helped a lot.

Cosequin is a join supplement, cystease is a bladder supplement. Similar ingredients but not the same at all. Ask your vet what supplements they have for bladders and they should give you the name of the USA equivalent. Sorry I don't know it.

Wish i didnt read this 🤔😐 how long before she passed? Its just dot possibly has a tumour but not diagnosed. She lost weight when the bladder lump was first noticed. But has now put it back on. The xray was done in july, so noticed the lump then

Yes. My doctor emailed them, but we haven't heard anything back yet.
Ok , hope it turns out to be a minor issue. Dots doing fine 6 months after her bladder growth thing was found. I think i have got to the point where i would rather not know what it is or was, whatever it was its gone down alot. She pees blood sometimes but is fine. Vet thinks she has intertestial cystitis . But 🤔 who knows

I am going to have another ultrasound done in a month or so as long as she is doing well so I can see if it changes in size. I am going to start her on a bladder supplement. I think I am able to get cystease in Amazon. I am just concerned about it being a tablet. I used cosequin for my bladder cat and it did wonders for him. I have read you can give it to guinea pigs too for the same thing.

give it a go, I'm sure someone mentioned cosequin being better than cystease for gpigs

Sorry to hear about your pigs suspected tumour. Hopefully the specialist can shed some more light. The fact she managed to gain weight is a very good sign, hopefully she maintains that for a good while to come. Metacam will deal with any secondary inflammation and cystease would be good to calm the bladder too. It's a glucosamine supplement for cystitis in cats. If you do get it off Amazon, you open the capsule and empty the powder into a little pot. Add some water from a 1ml syringe, mix and draw it back up into the syringe. If your vet recommends half or a quarter a capsule at each dose, just half or quarter whatever is in the syringe and leave the other half for future doses. It will need a little shake but keeps fine for a day or so. You are doing all you can, just keep an eye on that weight daily so you can notice any changes early on. There are other pain killers that can be added in further down the line if she needs it. Hope she stays comfortable for a good while to come x
