Bleeding from Rear...Boar

My normally frisky boar Theodore is being observed at our local vet tonight. He has been bleeding from his rear and is listless and quiet. He is only about 2/3 months old. I'm fairly new with Piggies and the vet didn't seem to have any idea what was wrong with him. He gave him some antibiotics and as I said is observing him overnight..but I am worried. Anyone had anything similar I have read about the soar bleeding but not boar...:...
 
I've had a sow that blood in her urine and the vet diagnosed bladder stones by feeling them and she was operated on and the stones successfully removed, and she survived without further problems. I think boars are more likely to get them than sows. It could also be a urinary tract infection (uri) which can be treated with antibiotics. The other thing it might be is sometimes pieces of hay can become inserted or stuck in a boy's bits and it may have torn some of skin causing some blood in the water when he passes. Try not to worry too much as it may be an infection. When you say he's passing blood I'm guessing it's in the urine and not in his poops.
 
Welcome to the forum Alvin&Theo and I am very sorry to hear that you have a boar so young which appears unwell.

I have had experience of boars and sows with bladder stones but has usually been a case of pain in them, i.e. squeaking when having a wee, that has alerted me to the problem rather than blood.

Has he been eating ok? Is he pooing ok?
Do you use straw as bedding as that is not recommended as it is sharp and perhaps a piece could have gone up his back passage?
Is it fresh blood or a darker colour?
 
The vet felt his back area and said that he couldn't feel anything. The blood was very dark and seem to be mixed with a bit of poo. I do have barley straw in their hutch...should I not use this?. He wasn't interested in eating and just laid in a little towell that I wrapped him in. Thank you all for your prompt reponses and kind and helpful words.
 
Just a thought ... but he hasn't been eating raw beetroot as he?
 
Sad News... Theodore passed away this morning.. Please help with next topic for Alvin.. New to piggies and am so upset
 
I am really upset. It has happened so quickly and I am having real trouble dealing with it. I also don't have a explanation. As a newbie the only explanation is a comment my daughter made. She said they had three piggies at school and they didn't produce nearly as much poo as my two piggies.. I am wandering if Theo had something wrong with him from the beginning as he was the one that seem to produce alot of poo.
 
I think pooing to guineas comes second to breathing, they really are poop machines as long as the poos are firm and normal in colour quantity isn't really an issue. I would be alarmed if I didn't find copious amounts in their cages
 
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Theo passing away. I know that you were worried about him, but it was obviously very sudden.

Piggies mask illness very well, it is natural in their habitat so that predators aren't aware that they are poorly until they can't disguise it anymore.

It is a shock when they pass over Rainbow Bridge very quickly and unexpectedly and he was so young ... bless him! :(

Hi Theo. I'm sorry to hear about your little guinea. But I have just gone through the same with one of my boars, he was alot older though (41/2 years) He was also bleeding from his back passage. I was told by my vet that he had a tumour, there was nothing they could do for him so I had to have him PTS.It was so sad he was a lovely little chap.
 
very sorry to hear that. rip theodore. He may have had some kind of internal bleed/hemorraging? Hope your other boar is coping ok.
