A few weeks ago I noticed, shock horror, running lice on one of my piggies. Now, I've got Gorgeous Guineas Lice n Easy, and also Flea or Die shampoo from CCT, and I did some pigs in each (to see if I prefered one or the other). I did all of them (um, over 40 pigs!) and did them all again a few days later like the instructions said, and also sprayed out the hutches with the Johnson's cage and hutch insecticidal spray. All seemed well - until yesterday, when I noticed a couple of the piggies in my big group have got lice again! Not all of them - maybe 2 or 2 out of the 11 in the group.
Since the lice last time, I threw away the rest of the hay and since then they've been on Readigrass instead, now it's warmer and they don't need it for bedding. I thought this would solve the problem. I don't understand how they're still there - I know there's the cycle of eggs / hatching / lice but I thought that was why you had to repeat the shampoo - in fact, I did it 3 times on the worse affected ones.
I'm at a loss now. Does Ivermectin / Ivomec work on running lice? I had thought it didn't, but I'd really like to be able to treat them (54 pigs at the mo!) without having to bath them all 3 times! Although of course if that's what it takes, I'll do it - but if there is another way I'd be really grateful!
