I haven't any useful tips I'm afraid, but just wanted to say well done for taking him on - he looks lovely, and I'm sure will be a happy little chap.

i think well what i have hard that is put his dish water bottle etc and any hidy holes he has in the same place all the time as he will get to know where eveything is and he will be able to make a map in his head of where things are in his cage

that is what i have hard people say

but I'm sure you will be a great mummy to him and well done for talking a blind piggie one not eveyone would have done that

Hi

I have a blind guinea pig and one that is half blind, they both live together.

They both manage really well, but the one that is blind always follows the other one. They both get upto mischief and will pull one of the Long Hair Rabbits hair through his cage when there on the fall. Obviously I have to stop them, he's quite frightened of them.

Jaye.

Hi Jaye,
Does your piggie do a sort of funny shaking of there head, if this is because he is blind or is there something else wrong with him? I am thinking a check up with the vets, would be a good idea.

Hi there. Well done for taking in this piggy.

I have a blind piggy called Princess. I knew she was blind when I adopted her. She manages really well. She knows her hutch layout and has adapted well. When I put her out in the run, she feels her way around the edges but she is a tough cookie and just gets on with it.

I got her when she was 7 weeks old and 7 weeks later, she gave birth to a litter of two which I only realised was about to happen several days before! One was DOA and the other, Junior, lives here with me and is now neutered. She was a fantastic mum to Junior. She used to pin him down with her front feet to clean him and that is what is does with food now. She moans at Shaun and Panda who she lives with about food, rumbles around and she is fine.

Guinea pigs who have been blind since birth obviously don't know anything different. Anyway sight even in the healthiest guinea pig isn't their strongest point.

If your pig lives with others, always give him his bit of food separately but at the same time so that he doesn't miss out. And never leave that hutch or cage door open, because a blind piggy will just carry on wandering and can fall!

Hi

No she doesn't shake her head, and has already been checked by a vet.

They are both very cheeky though.

Jaye

Hi Jaye,
Sorry if you misunderstood me, I didnt mean your piggies may need a vet check, I meant mine as I only got him this evening and he just seems to be acting strange.

Guinea pigs can do a shaking of the head when very happy. They also jump up and down which we call popcorning.

However, if he is shaking his head while remaining still, it might be worth seeking a vets opinion in case it is an ear problem.
