Hi all I am running around like a blue a***d fly as I came home from work to a very swollen and very subdued Bumble. Flicked her belly and pretty certain I am dealing with gas bloat that I have never dealt with before.

Most of you know I wrote my car off on Monday and my OH is currently away. I have soften some pellets and she's eaten a tiny bit and my old toothbrush is on charge to help try and disperse this. I need to get her to a vets which I can't do until first thing in the morning and its not going to be a cavy savvy vet given the transport issue. Please help me with whatever tips you can to try and get my girl right again!

I have stuffed a piece of carpet inner tube with hay and broken up an empty toilet roll, I have soften pellets and offering no veg at all. I will massage her tummy though she is protesting A LOT! What else can I do?

Oh dear serious :(
Do u have any gripe water this may help disperse the gas bubbles.

The toothbrush massage will help to relieve it too.
As long as its not a blockage that's causing it, the massage may not help it then.

Are u sure its gas &not a liquid build up?
If its liquid a diuretic wil be needed &quickly.

Is your vets close enough to taxi or bus it there?
Do u have anybody close by that could give u a lift to the vets.

Healing vibes&speedy recovery to your little one xx

It won't let me edit post. If its a gassy build up u can get gripe water from the baby section in the supermarket. Tesco &asda definitely do it for about £3-£3.50
Xx

Have seen on here someone put their pig in a washing basket (lots of fluffy towels in ) pull out the washing machine and then pop piggy on top in the basket when the spin cycle is on - the vibrations seemed to help that piggy - poor you - hoping the toothbrush and massage helps - big hugs xx

Was going to suggest gripe water too, and the massage once your toothbrush is charged. Also try to get her to move about as much as possible. A vet is needed really but I appreciate it is not easy to get there. Pain relief too, do you have any?

Thanks everyone, I think I may need to get to an emergency vet. She is shaking and not really able to move, seems to be her back legs that are a problem. Will call and beg my dad or call a taxi and sod the cost.

She has daily metacam so has had paid relief.

I did the flick test to see what kind of bloat it is and that's why I think it's gas but I'm Def out my depth

I really hope she will be OK and that your dad can take you.

Glad you're getting her to the vets ASAP bloat is serious. Definitely beg your dad -flutter your eyelashes &quiver your bottom lip, I'm sure he'll take you ;)

Good luck at the vets, speedy recovery. Xx

My dad drove over to pick us up. By the time we got there she was slumped on her side and unable to move her back legs. After a small deliberation, given her kidney failure and arthritis we agreed the kindest thing was to help her over the bridge.

I had a few minutes alone with her and when I rubbed my nose on hers she simply closed her eyes slowly and opened them again. She was definitely ready.

I wasn't expecting this so soon but if it was bloat then it wasn't the only thing going on tonight. God I'm in bits now.

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a good job your Dad was able to pick you and Bumble up - at least you were able to do everything you could for her . She is at peace now.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry. That was really nice of your Dad to take you. Hope you're OK.

My heart goes out to you - big hugs x

Oh dear no, not sweet Bumble. I know I've not been able to offer any advice but I have watched her threads and hoped so much for her to recover.
Oh @Lady Kelly I am so sorry. She couldn't have wished for a more attentive and loving human to share her life with. I hope you will be ok.
Be free at the Bridge Bumble, restored to health.
:hug::hug::hug:

oh i am so sorry, everything she has been through. At least you knew she was ready, but it is never easy.
Popcorn free over the rainbow bridge little Bumble. RIP.
Take care of yourself now-its always heartbreaking losing one of these cuddly bundles.
Big hug for you. you done all you could. xx

I'm so, so sorry to read this Kelly :( Such a horrible position to be in but you did all you could in the circumstances. Thinking of you x

Sleep tight beautiful Bumble xx

I'm so sorry for your loss. You did absolutely the right thing. I do hope you're okay. May Bumble popcorn free. x

Oh no I am so sorry :( I lost my once in a lifetime piggy in August to a sudden onset of bloat, it is truly terrible :( I hope you are ok, message me if you want a chat xx

Kelly, I'm so terribly sorry for you. What a terrible shock for you to find Bumble like that. Popcorn free Bumble. Huge hugs xx

Thank you all for your kind words. I was sure Bumble had bloat, her tummy was taught and sounded hollow on one side. By the time we went vets it had gone a bit fluidy. I don't know what had happened but she wasn't interested in her food or metacam.

I think I've reached the point of not having to know what went wrong just that it did and that I did all I could to help her. I feel for my OH who is working away this week and didn't have chance to say goodbye.

Once my laptop is sorted out I will make sure to post an appropriate tribute on the rainbow bridge board for her.

Kelly, I have just read this thread. So sorry :( It sounds like there was more going on mate that you couldn't have done anything about. You got her to the vets and helped her when she needed you the most. I am so sorry for you, you really did all you could to help her, huge hugs buddy x x x

Sleep well little Bumble, go and snuggle Bea at the bridge
x x
