I noticed that my guinea pig’s stomach is puffed out and feels a little hard. Is this bloat? He is about 1 year old and is an American Abyssinian mix. He is still eating and drinking and is acting mostly normal, but he squeals when I touch his belly.

Hi and welcome!

If you suspect bloat, please have your piggy seen by a vet as quickly as possible. Severe bloat can kill. It comes in waves that can be hours, days or even weeks apart. Vet grade gut drugs are important.

Here is our information on bloat and what to do, including your support care at home in conjuction with the necessary medication: Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

All the best!

Hope you get him seen soon. Can I also just say please do not dress your piggy up. It’s not appropriate for them.

Do let us know how you get on.
