:( Rocky has a case of bloat. We have been to the vet and he's had some pain killers and a gut stimulant. he seems very sorry for him self but is eating his hay. Would you be able to advise we have critical care and he has to eat the whole pack between now and 7pm tomorrow (wed 29th) i guess we're in for a long night

Poor Rocky. I've recently been through bloat with Piglet. It's really important to get some food in him but not to overload him if he's really bloated. It's great that he's eating hay. Try and keep him moving around as much as you can and massage his tummy.

how rough should i be massaging his stomach? hes a bit puffed up this morning still on CC

Massage gently, you should start hearing 'farty' noises or if you've got something like a massage pillow you can sit him on that. Piglet made it known if I was too firm with my massage! Pooping is a good sign! Keep weighing every day to make sure you're keeping his weight up.
Have you been given any meds to take home for him?

no just CC he had pain relief and a gut stimulant (injections) at the vet we're going to get some gripe water later and maybe some blackcurrant electrolyte stuff. Can they have a crushed indigestion tablet at all or is it toxic

Sorry to hear Rocky is bloated :( We were given some Metoclopramide (gut stimulant) by our vet to give daily when Treacle had a episode of bloat. Keep massaging that'll help dislodge any gas. Pooing is a great sign so is the Hay eating.

The only thing i know about bloat is that a long car ride can do wonders for them? xx

Pooing and hay eating are great signs!

Keep gently massaging him to work out the trapped gas; the vibrations of a car ride can also help in the respect.

Best of luck! Bloat can take quite some time to really get over, and it can make an unwelcome return, so you need to be very careful, but you are moving in the right direction!

My poor Toffee has recently been through this after I left him on the grass for too long. The poor lad bloated up over night :-(

As advised by others, it's important that he continues to eat (hay, nuggets, CC). I was advised to withdraw all fresh veg/fruit from Toffee's diet and he was getting critical care syringed also after receiving gut stimulants and zan-tac daily. It took over a month to get him more or less right so you may have to be patient and do lots of nursing! It's very important to keep his gut moving. I remember being SO pleased when Toffee's poops started coming through normally! I hope he feels better soon.

How is Rocky today? I hate bloat, ive only ever had two pigs get bloat and sadly they didn't make it :/

:( still not eating as i'd like him to he's put on weight since yesterday (+60g) will only eat CC and a bit of hay. He did fart earlier :)>>> he can move freely but he still has a mountain too climb

Well it's a small step in the right direction at least! Keep up the cc and tummy massage. I did take my boy out in the car as much as I could as he seemed to really enjoy it sat on my lap as my other half drove round and hopefully helping to budge some gas. The massage pillow is a food idea too if you have one. Keep him eating and pooping :-)

Toffee suffered with that too, gurgling uncomfortable sounds. He's probably grumpy as he's uncomfortable with it bless him. he may need more gut stimulant from the vet.

he's goingto the vet tomorrow he's not drinking or eating enough for me to be happy with him (he wont drink unless you syringe him)

Really sorry to hear this mate :(
Keep up the great work and i'll be looking in to see how his vet visit went!

the vet is really happy with how rocky is getting on, his stomach is less hollow this morning and he seems to be be on the mend. He had another gut stimulant injection (not met with his approval i may add) and more CC

Good glad he seems to be getting somewhere! Toffee is never to keen on the vets either :-)

Good stuff! Very pleased for you. How's the poo? - Rocky, not you :))

still not normally formed but at least there are some

Good. Treacle had a bad episode of bloat earlier this year. She has tiny ones now but is on a low dose of metachlopromide. Whenever she has a bloaty episode she'll stop pooing and when she starts again they'll be unformed and a little sloppy till her system cuts back to normal. We have massively reduced things like cabbage, broccoli etc... It has helped no end. Hope Rocky continues to improve.

YAY ROCKY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

It's really worth cutting out any veg that will make Rocky gassy until you've got him sorted out totally (this has helped Onyx) xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I think peppers are a a no no. I'm sure I was told or read this somewhere. Agree with Glynis though, I wouldn't give him anything "fresh" just now and then once he has improved/stablished for a while, start him back on the odd bit, maybe parsley, cucumber until you know it's settled. Bloat is something that can re-occur once a piggy has it.

I wold definitely stay off pepper and fresh veg until the poos have been stable for a couple of days. Bloat can reoccur, so you need to be extra careful. Never introduce more than one new veg per meal.

Start with a bit of fresh herbs like coriander or parsley, or some mild veg like a very small slice of cucumber.
