I have 2 long haired Guinea pigs (sisters) 4 years old. One of them has always drank more than the other one but never noticed anything else. Yesterday when putting them out in the run I noticed the one that drinks alot seems to be quite bloated. I know that there's not many vets that know much about them and I'm in hull. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or maybe where I could take her to be checked over but by a vet that actually knows about them? Thank you

There is a forum vet locator on this site. Hope the bloat isnt too bad, try doing some tummy massages, if u have aything that vibrates and put it under a towel then place it where the bloat is. That helps alot, also letting your pigs run about on the floor helps. Bloat can be deadly if not seen to. I'm just saying try this until you can find a vet, sometimes you can get the bloat gone by yourself other times you just cant shift it without meds

Also avoid any gassy veg like kale, cabbage, spinach whilst the bloat is still there

OK thank you I will have a look and follow your advice regards food etc

When you say she seems quite bloated what exactly do you mean? Is she just more rounded than her cage mate or is she displaying signs of bloat,? I.e. swollen tummy that sounds hollow when tapped, loss of appetite, lethargy

It's just a swollen tummy she's still completely herself eating been in the garden today standing on what I call her soap box shouting for food when she heard the fridge door open all just like she normally does. She's more confident than the other one and always has been. It's just her tummy.

If you listen to her tummy and tap it does it sound hollow? If not then it's unlikely you are dealing with bloat which can be a fatal illness. Some piggies are just more developed and more rounded than others but if you have any concerns over health at all a vets visit is recommended. After all piggies are well known for hiding illnesses
