I recently saw a post on here regarding bloating and excess gas in Guinea pigs (I can't find it now). My Guinea pig Dudley is on medication for excess gas, he had xrays which confirmed it. Other than critical care food and his meds is there anything else I csn get to help him. He's very off his food other than hay at the moment. His tummy is starting to make loads of rumbling sounds which I think is good sign?

I think if he has medication from the vet and is still eating his hay, then a hay and pellets diet is probably best for him for a few days until his tummy gas settles.
If he isnt eating enough hay and pellets then step in with syringe feeding recovery food or mushed up pellets, weigh him daily at the same time to check he is eating enough, and if he is then just feed hay and pellets- if not add some supplementary syringe feeds.
Bloat can take a few weeks to fully settle down so be careful when reintroducing veg, start with small pieces of pepper or one or two pieces of fresh herbs like coriander or parsley, and keep monitoring his weight and feeding lots of hay.
You might add a probiotic supplement like pro-C or fibreplex or some "poop soup" make with fresh poops from a healthy friend, to help rebalance his gut bacteria?

Thank you for your reply. He's eating very little veg currently, the odd spinach and cucumber. He has eaten alot of hay today but not touching his pellets, so been syringe feeding with recovery. I'm hoping he will recover from this, it's very worrying. Thank you for your advice.

If he has made it through the acute stage and is eating hay and pooping normally then that sounds good, just be aware that bloat can be a recurring thing! We have a piggy who almost died from bloat and about every 10 days for 3 months it kept coming back, luckily after that it settled down and she's been bloat free for about a year now, but I'm still always a bit worried if she eats a lot of veg or looks a bit quiet in case it happens again! X

He's not quite pooping properly yet, he is but very small amounts. Aww bless her, I'm glad your little piggie made it through. It is very scary, but I shall definitely monitor for more in the future. I hope it doesn't reoccur

Our bloat survivor Lady Puggle sends many healing wheeks and piggy kisses! She had a very bad few months with bloat when her weight almost reached 800g then she got sick again and dropped to 700g, over and over again, we thought it would never stop, but now she is over 1kg of chubby and she always sends much love to any bloaty piggies- this is Puggle sending her love x
