Bloaty Puggle again :(

Oh dear this morning little Puggle has a bloaty tummy again... not as bad as the first time it happened, I've given her some of the zantac and meloxicam that were prescribed for her last time and I'll be phoning the vet when they open at 11... it was Jezebel who told us Puggle was poorly, she had snuggled up with her and started making alarm wheeking when we came downstairs, she's such a kind floofy piggy, now she's keeping watch on Puggle in the hospital cage from the other side of the bars and clucking like a mother hen/sheep. Puggle is clearly going to a continual bloaty piggy I think, she'd not even eaten much in the way of greens yesterday, a piece of chard and a piece of lambs lettuce at breakfast time then just red peppers and carrots...
 
Oh dear poor Puggle. It's nice that Jezebel has decided to Mother her what a lovely caring floofy pants she is! And people day animals don't have feelings ......

Hope Puggle is feeling better very soon. I'm sure Nurse Jezabel will look after her when you can't be there.
 
Puggle's tummy feels less hard and she seems in less pain after she had her meds, but I've not seen any poops yet, going to call the vet now...

She's very sleepy, maybe she's had tummy ache all night, the vet said if she's had her zantac and meloxicam and doesnt need any stronger pain relief just let her try to sleep it off then try get her eating or syringe feed her later on this afternoon, and take her to the vet first thing tomorrow the morning if she hasnt eaten or pooped by then. I have an emergency vet number if she gets worse in the meantime.
 
Poor little Puggle 🙁 If it helps, we had a completely bloaty girl here, she was always getting bouts so in the end we tried a grain free diet for her and she never bloated again! She did manage to get hold of a treat with grain in at one point and she blew up like a balloon again. Perhaps worth a try? I hope she feels better soon ❤️
 
Since we established her bloaty episodes are coriander linked I wonder if she's eaten some other pigs coriander poops? Everyone else had coriander but only hand fed at lap time, Puggle got carrots instead, could she be so sensitive to coriander she's bloated up from eating it as second hand poops? Guess there's no way of knowing...
 
We are mostly grain free with pellets, only a few alfalfa and grain containing pellets as treats, and Puggle isn't really into pellets anyway... she's not into much foodwise except carrots and cucumber and red pepper and hay really, very tiny appetite compared to her greedy friends!

I am very sorry; bloating after a serious incident can take a long time to stabilise. Take him off any fresh veg during an acute episode and please try to stay off root veg and grain.
 
Well Puggle slept for 3 hours, then woke up feeling a bit better, she ate 5mls of critical care from a spoon, then pulled a funny face and let loose with some very noisy farts which made us both quite surprised! She's staying in the hospital cage with grain free pellets and hay until I see poops, then hopefully after she's had a bit more critical care and another dose of zantac and the other piggies have finished their evening veggies she can go home for bed. Otherwise its the vets first thing tomorrow...
 
Puggle is much better for now, she had more zantac at 6pm and the hay and pellets in her hospital cage have been eaten and converted into lovely poops and she's chatting to her friends through the cage bars so I think she can go home for bedtime :)
 
Glad to hear she's feeling better - hope she continues to improve.
 
Well done for spotting it quickly. Because of your swift actions (and of course not forgetting Nurse Jezebel who alerted you) Puggle is feeling much better.:yahoo: I think Jezebel deserves an extra piece of coriander tonight and an extra cuddle.:)

Sorry I've had a mad day and only just seen this thread. Poor Puggle, so glad to hear that she is on the mend.
Healing wheeks from my piggies heading her way. xx

Oh dear poor little Puggle pants has started bloating YET AGAIN :( it came on really suddenly, she was playing happily and eating hay then suddenly she hunched up and went all stiff and started mewling like she's in pain and sort of straining...
Emergency vet appointment 11am tomorrow, going to give her zantac and cat loxicom yet again now, she's only been fed lots of hay and a bit of cucumber today, and only grain free pellets and red peppers and hay last night, so no obvious triggers there... hope the vet has some suggestions or at least a big bottle of zantac because that works really well for her but we've almost run out...
 
Its really weird today, she seems fine then hunches up and starts flinching and straining and sounds in pain, then she skips off again like she's ok, 20 minutes later it happens again... her tummy is hard and I can feel a weird lunp but it might just be gas... she had xrays the first time this happened 7 weeks ago and apart from gas everything looked ok, no kidney or bladdet stones or anyway... Maybe we can get her an ultrasound scan or something to get a better look? Luckily we had Jezebel booked in for a routine appointment tomorrow and when we suggested swapping Jezebel's appointment for one for Puggle, the receptionist asked the vet (who loves Jezebel's floofiness) and they said they would try see them both.
Poor Puggle, but she's had her zantac and meloxicam and gone back with her friends for now, I'll keep checking on her and see if she needs the hospital cage but she might be happier with her friends seeing as they have taken to sleeping 3 in an igloo tent now the weather is colder!
 
So Puggle hid in a hidey tube and writhed about squealing in pain for 10 minutes and I was considering phoning the out of hours super emergency vet (at £170 per consultation) then... she stopped, came out, ate some hay, challenged big Clover to a dominance battle and won, mated with Theo, ate some pellets, and jumped on the roof of the mostly demolished carrot cottage! What on earth is going on with my minature ginger piggy queen? Maybe it isnt just bloat, maybe its a gynecology issue... or a bladder issue thst didnt show up on the xray... vet tomorrow! I will ask for an ultrasound scan, I know they have the equipment and expertise... bloody guinea pigs! Does Puggle pants not realise I almost spent the price of 17 carrot cottages on a futile late night vet run to see a vet who never even met her?! Which I would always do in an emergency of course, but not if she's having dinner and Theo romance time 10 minutes after I think she is dying :)
 
@PigglePuggle I would if it's more of a digestion issue rather than bloat. One of my boys has never had bloat but he does suffer with soft poops and flinching when pooping sometimes. There are various veg that he can't have because of it.

We've already eliminated coriander, and parsley, and lambs lettuce and raduchio, and generally all leafy things just in case, from her diet, plus all grain containing foods, just because she'd eaten them in the 24 hours before her 4 previous bloaty episodes! I have inflammatory bowel disease myself so I do sympathise with little Puggle but after today I wonder if it isn't necessarily just guts, because she's still eating and hasn't had any potential trigger foods at all since last weekend's bloaty day... hopefully the vet can shed some more light on this, and I'll definitely max out my credit card then remortgage my house paying for tests until we find out! If our usual vet can't help any further I'll ask for a referral to the University of Liverpool small animal hospital (where our vet trained) and they have CT scanners and MRIs and all that stuff...
She's only 10 months old and she's Theo's favorite wife so whatever it takes really to try fix her up!
