Oh dear Puggle seems to be having a bloaty episode tonight, first one in 6 months... I could hear sad chirping at haytray cleaning and Puggle was all fluffed up and looking sad with a swollen tummy... feel guilty because possibly I overfed salad last night but we had a lovely big bag of lamb's lettuce that was use before today, and she's been fine for so long... hope we caught it early enough, we gave her ranitidine and loxicom (luckily we had unopened bottles of both prescribed for her last time saying give 0.25mls of both twice a day at any sign of a flare up) and she ate a piece of hay cookie as a reward which should help keep her guts moving...
Bad timing there little Puggly pants, it's your husboar's gotcha day tomorrow and I grew him an extra big tray of grass and clover and you're going to miss out :(

Just hope it calms down and she doesnt need the emergency vet... she had an almost fatal acute bloat episode last year then a few episodes that were less bad because we had the meds ready to give her at the first sign... this is the first episode in a long time, hope it calms down overnight and she keeps eating and pooping... the other piggies are very worried about her and fussing about, I dont think it was even her chirping, it was one of her friends, possibly kind Jezzy floof who is a very good nurse piggy!

Good thing you have meds on hand and gave her some immediately. Hope she doesnt need the emergancy vet. Keep us posted!

Hope she’s better soon and it doesn’t get worse. Kisses from Toffee and Fudge and hugs from Coco and Chanel 💕

Fingers very firmly crossed for her!
Bloat, GI Stasis ( No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

I think I'll leave her with her friends for now and see if she comes out for a bit of dinner now she's had her meds a couple of hours ago (no greens of course! Grain free pellets, a tiny bit of red pepper, and some crumbled up hay cookie) and some after dinner hay. Its tricky because I want to monitor her poops but her friends fuss over her and feed her their healthy poops when she's bloaty, they are such a well bonded herd by now I dont want to upset the balance or deprive her of healthy poop donations and freshly pooped on hay!

I had good results with zantac Emeprid and cysaspride for bloat. Dot deflated within the hour of having it. Get well soon Puggle!

Think we might be ok, Puggle stole everypig's hay cookie bits (didnt eat them all but stole them and ran off with them and nibbled them all!) Then I heard an outraged wheeking and it was Puggle harassing Theo's bottom while he was having dinner so she could steal his fresh poops! Saw her eat three :) she's a clever girl and knows what helps her bloaty tummy!

Ralph is also suffering with bloat, so he sends gassy greetings to Puggle
Puggle thanks Ralph for his gassy greetings and hopes he feels better soon! Usually ranitidine fixes Puggle up in a couple of hours, its such a worry though after her first acute bloat episode when she almost died and needed buprenorphine for the horrible pain she was in... thats why we always have ranitidine at home on long term prescription, the vet said give it straight away if she looks at all uncomfortable in any way because she's definitely prone to bloating! I guess after 6 months bloat free I let my guard down and stopped strictly counting the salad leaves, but back to stricter rations now little Puggly pants, you can come out for lap time hay cookies if the rest of the herd are having a salad binge...

Betsy sends her best get well greetings and go away horrible bloat to Puggle. She remembers when she had bloat her Hooman massaged her tummy for ages at least 3 times a day and it hurt. Then after a couple of days the bloat went away during a massage session and she hasn't had it since.

Puggle seems ok today thank goodness, she seemed to be feeling a bit delicate still first thing this morning but she's had some more ranitidine and loxicom and is drinking a lot of water and wandering around eating hay (and a bit of carrot, she's fine with carrots, its only greens that are trigger foods for her).
I was wondering if readigrass would be ok for her to have today or is it too rich? I was going to open a new bag of readigrass today as a treat and it is sort of hay and is very tasty... but I dont want her bloating again!
She's the smallest adult piggy and is also the only piggy its impossible to syringe feed (she panics and wont swallow, best we can ever do is her licking CC off a slice of cucumber or a spoon) so I want her to keep eating... I can see a fair bit of hay disappearing anyway!

Sorry I missed this thread as I was away at the end of last week and didn’t have much time for the forum.
How is Puggle now?

Puggle is fully recovered thank you, though the rest of the herd are a bit annoyed there's been no leafy veg served this week! They've had plenty peppers and cucumber and pea pods though plus some carrot and babycorn so I'm sure they aren't as malnourished as the wheeking suggests :)

Can you show me, which pea pods are ok for guineas

This is what we get, they keep fresh for ages and are nice in hooman stirfries or chopped up in piggy dinners :) they aren't their favourite thing but according to the nutritional info on the bag they are quite high in vit C and the piggies will eat them if there's nothing leafier going on! I've been feeding 2 chopped pods per piggy with a slice of red pepper each for their dinner this week :)

Ah yes i have seen these. I will get some asap. Thanks

My lot prefer green beans to peapods although they will eat the peapods. They prefer kale and spinach of course which they don't get very often as loads of calcium in both. I get kale when I have to give Betsy a trim as it is the only thing that keeps her still enough for me to trim around her rather ample bum!

I feed kale about 2 times a week now. I just wet it first and then give them cucumber after.

Sorry for the off-topic question, but why do you cut these up to feed? My girls aren’t really fans but will eat them if there’s nothing better going, I have just been putting them in whole though is that wrong?

Glad Puggle is feeling better

(Ps - my phone is desperately trying to autocorrect Puggle to Piggle!)
