I've put new quarantine pig Blodwen in a box that the other piggies have been playing in all day that really smells of happy pigs, does anyone think this is a good idea? I'm just going to leave her in the box for an hour with some hay and a bit of veg before she gets her skin treatment and syringe feed... then I'll throw away the box and F10 the floor and playpen 20181110_155531.webpobviously! She must miss her old friends but she really has to lose the evil skin fungus before she can meet her new friends in person...

I imagine as long as you aren’t giving it back to your other piggies it’s ok

How is she doing, has she picked up a little from her ordeal with that bad home?

She's very nervous and its rather like having a pet catatonic fear potato to be honest but she syringe feeds and cuddles up with piggy daddy and sniffs about a bit when she thinks we arent looking... not had her 48 hours yet so early days but think things will take time...

She will probably settle down once she’s with your other piggies. It will take time, she’s had such an anwful time, poor girl, glad to here she’s snuggling up with daddy pig ❤️ She obviously sees him as her saviour!

I reckon she will end up leading the herd 😛
Your doing really well, if she was not going to make it surely she would have gone by now. Keep up the good work. All my wishes and thoughts are with you, piggy daddy and blodd pig.

Ive had a boar in the past who have 3 uri's , one case of near gastric torsion and pneumonia. Through all of these seperate illnesses i thought theres no way hes getting through, but somehow he did. And lived to 6 years old. 3 bladder stones was what had him in the end but boy he was a fighter

Just went to check on Bloddy pig and she's all spread out relaxed sat in her second-hand hay tray and all the beansprouts and cucumber have disappeared from her food bowl... her fur looks like a crazy hedgehog though with this antifungal lotion stuff!

Pleased she is taking her syringe feed from Piggy Daddy and eating some veg. How is she with the hay? Is she still eating sexy boar hay? or has she moved onto fresh stuff yet?

She only eats hay in secret but I have seen whiskers and hay moving about at the same time inside a box or hidey tube or when she thinks I'm not watching... she's getting the freshest lot of old piggy hay with a handful of fresh stuff on top, but from the whisker movements it might be the aroma of Theo :)

Just checked again and the pellets were gone from the food bowl too! Topped up the food bowl with extra beansprouts and pellets for her... no idea where she is, presumably in the depths of piggy daddy's discarded jumper which was a really excellent housing suggestion :) piggy daddy is off reciting world war 1 poetry and singing remembrance songs somewhere in Formby for a war memorial concert with his choir... without a jumper!

Well we're on to day 3 and she's still very scared but taking in bit more interest in her surroundings... she's nibbling a bit of spinach with her morning syringe feed and its only taken half an hour to feed her 5mls of critical care! Yesterday morning it took over an hour...20181111_110058.webp

Aw piggy grandma brought Blodwen a bunch of grapes "because poorly people always get grapes". Blod was trying to do her catatonic fear response but... there were grape slices right by her nose so she couldnt quite manage it! Unfortunately her ringworm looks worse tonight but she ate a grape and a few beansprouts and 5mls of critical care and has gone home to the quarantine cage with an extra grape and a bit of bistro salad...

Surgical gloves for handling, hot wash clothes, F10 spray everything... ideally we should be showering in an antifungal wash too but not got it yet. Maybe we'll all get infected too, but its often an opportunistic pathogen that infects when stress and lowered immunity give it a chance... which sounds just like what happens with being up 3 nights in a row nursing a sick new pig actually so we'll probably get it anyway!

She's a lot of stress and responsibility, but yes, she's lovely. It really isnt her fault she's brought horrible fungal pathogens into my house and I am going to do my best for her. If she gets better and joins the herd that would be amazing, but if not then at least she's getting better care than she would have otherwise I think...

She is so cute and it’s good to hear that she’s doing so well after only 3 days.
She’s a very lucky piggy to have landed with you.

I feel really bad that she had a herd she's been taken away from, but I guess if we hadnt taken her someone else would have (we were told someone else was collecting her today if we didnt get there before them) and imagine how awful if she went to a poor family with kids and no vet fund and no veterinary experience carrying ringworm...

I think her luck has change since your husband picked her up, she’s a lucky girl to have “found” you both x

She has found a great home with you.

Day 4: Blodwen is starting to act like a piggy not a catatonic fear potato, she's starting to object to things she doesnt like and react straight away to things she does like- she ate a grape, 3 spinach leaves, 4 beansprouts and 10mls of critical care in 15 minutes :)
This topical antifungal is giving her a permanent bad hair day though...

She has lovely whiskers though :)
