My baby Poppy (4 months only yesterday) has blood coming from her parts, I noticed it on the fleece then checked her parts. She has not been squealing when she pees. She has been eating hay, pellets, veg and water normally...
Vets are closed right now.
Worried about my little girl :( :(

Unfortunatly that depends on whats wrong? Have you got any guinea pig friendly vets nearby? I'm sorry I'm not from the USA. If its a cystitis/urine infection a medication call septrin here is usually best used for it. A uterine infection, spaying is usually the best course of action. Bladder stones, again, usually surgery is the best action to take. But i really couldnt say unless you know whats wrong with your piggie I'm afraid?

Please see a vet though, sounds like your piggie needs to be seen soon.

x.

If she is actually bleeding all the time not just when peeing then that is serious and she must see a vet asap. If she has blood in her urine then a uti is the most likely thing and it is quite common. Baytril will usually sort it out, septrin is good too but haven't used it personally. Pop her in when the vet opens tomorrow.

The blood is just periodic, looking like it is when she goes wee. I am going to take her to the vet as soon as it opens.
Watching her closely today (for signs of making noises while she wees, her eating, etc). Still eating normally and no signs of noise while she wees.

Update:
Poppy is being treated for UTI with baytril. Doc didn't feel any signs of stones and wanted to start treating for UTI, if she doesn't improve further looking into stones will be done (since she is so young he felt it was unlikely that she has stones). I hope the medicine works and it is just a UTI!

He also suggested I start using timothy hay pellets instead of alfalfa pellets (I was using alfalfa because I read many places that young guinea pigs should have those). I think this is a good idea. Any opinions?

Right now I have Poppy on a white towel on top of the fleece. Would it be a good idea to keep doing this (changing it a couple times daily/when needed) to monitor blood?

i was advised to switch from alfalfa to timothy hay when my late boy was been treated for stones.

Hope poppy is ok hon x
