So I went to th vets with morgan yday and she has a fluid filled lump, which turned out to be a blood filled lump the vet thought aybe it was hameatoma a bruise under the skin if she had hurt herself or something, and said if it fills back up it might be that she has a clotting problem or that she had ruptured a vein or something, ive had a look and it appears to be re-filling, i cant find any info on google about it..I'm hoping someone on here may have had a similar experience?

I'm gunna watch it over the next few days and see if it deffo is re-filling, I cant afford for her to have surgery because I only work part time :(

anyone else know about this?

she said it was rare for a guinea pig to get it, and she hadnt seen it before..i think it occurs in cats and dogs more often

Oh gosh.. what are the plans if she keeps getting them? Is it to be cut out like an abscess? I'm googling!

One of Badger's lumps was a haematoma which grew to a tremendous size in a week. I could almost see it growing bigger before my eyes. :( That lump never grew back though although sadly he had a number of lumps, the last one being cancerous! :'(

How big did it get? Badger's grew to tennis ball size within a week!

i dont know at the moment, as she drained it yesterday..she said if it re-fills she either has a blood clotting problem or a ruptured vein, I'm not sure what they can do for the problem of clotting she didnt say, but i assume they can operate to tie off the ruptured vein if thats what it is right?

I'm worried about them having surgery as shes over 5 years of age, and I cant afford it, I cant afford to have her put down if thats what its going to end in.l

shes not in any pain, shes eating, drinking, running around, being nosey, playing etc shes still very healthy.

It wasnt that big, it was id say 1 inch x 1 inch roughly..she took about 12ml of blood from it.

I've just been reading about dogs with the same. I know it's not the exact same, but they did a study of draining and tying the vessels.
The draining being sufficient enough but you will have to keep going back, as the blood inside the skin can get infected.

The tying of the vessels/cliiping them to completely shut off the blood (haematoma) worked almost 100%.

But then again, like you with her age and shes all fine, I personally wouldn't want her to undergo surgery.

i think they just want to make money out of me, its £8.21 just to see the vet! even with 2 piggies being seen at the same time they charged me £16.00! I'll see what the vets say anyways, i cant afford to take her again this week though i dont think, she may have to wait til monday, but its not filled up yet i just noticed there was a tiny lump, and i was hoping it may be swelling from where she put the needle in 3 different places.

Blooming heck! Paula (our vet) only charges for treatment now. Sometimes the odd piggy that has a full consultation, but they allow us to pay in instalments if needs be :)

thats good it cost me £32.49 for 2 pigs just to be seen, morgan has her lump drained, and lois got some cream..its ridiculous!

I wish they did pet insurance for small mammals, it doesn't seem fair that they dont :(

It sounds different to the lump Badger had. We had histology done on it as it had been such an aggressive lump and all the tissue around it was black and damaged. We were just so relieved that it came back as a haematoma and not cancerous. Sadly the next one was. :'(

I would just keep an eye on it - it sounds as though it can be drained fairly easily if need be.

you think it would be ok to just keep draining it then?

It wouldn't do any harm and I don't think there is another procedure that the vet could use, not without sedating her. I think you will have to keep getting it drained and hope it doesn't fill up again. :)

they havent given me any for her, i havent checked her yet today to see if its filled anymore i'll do that when i get home ive got lots of other things on my mind today including some fraudster taking money out of my bank account! grr..

yeah its ridiculous, i dont know if they would teach me to keep draining it then i dont have to keep trailing her down there every week or so and paying out a fortune!

when gucci (rip) had her op it cost me £109 and she went downhill after the op.

its the actual vet that i talk to, its not an independent vet..theres quite few who work for the practise but its small so theres only ever one vet there at a time, and a receptionist..ive checked her today nad it doesnt look anymore swelled than it did yesterday..

That's good news. I know what you mean about the vets (£18 just to have a five minute consultation for one guinea pig :o), but providing I trust them I'm not happy but satisfied. Fingers crossed for Morgan, get better soon girl. O0

thank you, i chaecked her today and i think its a bit bigger..so i think I'm gunna have to take her back to the vets again if it gets much bigger, on the plus side lois has a mammory tumor which appears to be shrinking :) odd i kinow..lol and het botty doesnt look as bad as it did the cream is making it better, and she it isnt bleeding anymore i think she kept itching it and making it bleed, but its looking much better O0

That's good news about Lois. Shame that Morgan's lump is filling up but at least it is nothing serious. O0
