Hi,
Today i noticed my guinea pig had some blood under her eye and a gooey-bloodey bit coming from her cloudy eye. I’m not sure how it could have happened as i can’t see any hay in it and my pigs don’t fight but occasionally argue. She is still eating and acting normal but i’m just concerned it could go down hill and not improve. If anyone has an idea as to what it could be that would be greatly appreciated!

Please have her seen by a vet. A cloudy eye can suggest an injury has occurred particularly concerning if that is blood (not clear from the picture). A hay poke injury can be a momentary poke which you wouldn’t necessarily have seen occur - you can only see the after effects
Eyes are considered urgent though so it is important she is seen ASAP

Is there any other alternative or is it a serious emergency? Both girls recently just had a URI and were put on antibiotics and then soon after stopped eating as a reaction to the medicine and the bill for the vet was over $500 and i’m not sure i’m prepared to pay another emergency vet visit. Thank you for informing me though.

Any eye injury needs vet treatment and they are considered to be urgent particularly if you are seeing blood. There is no alternative to getting any injury or Ilnesss checked out and dealt with properly. No home treatment is ever recommended (we cannot tell you what is actually wrong) as it is most likely to result in further issues caused by not getting an issue dealt with properly and promptly

Antibiotics can also kill off the good gut bacteria which can put them off their food. It is a good idea to give a probiotic (1-2 hours either before or after an antibiotic dose) while a piggy is on antibiotics as it can help settle the gut. Always switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh them daily as this enables you to more closely monitor hay intake and step in with syringe feeding during any period of loss of appetite/illness
