I noticed the day before yesterday that my piggie (Smudge) had a pinkish discolored pee, and I passed it off. But as were sitting on the couch watching stranger things and he's in his little bed, I notice there's another bright red spot. I searched around a bit and did check his penis to see if there were any wood shavings In there and there werent. He did although have a very funky smell going on. I'm not sure if that's normal. I may not be able to take him to the vet due to cost which is why I'm here first. He is about 3.5 years old now.

Hi and welcome!

It sounds very much like your boy has got a urinary tract infection or a cystitis (inflammation of the bladder walls), both showing the same symptoms and both requiring a vet visit and a precription-only antibiotic as well as ideally an anti-inflammatory/painkiller in order to address both the infection as well as the inflammation and the accompanying discomfort. At the worst, you are looking at a bladder stone or bladder sludge.
Unfortunately, there is no way around a vet trip.
Guinea Lynx :: UTI

The strong stale urine smell points towards a well developed cystitis/stone/sludge rather than a classic UTI, so the sooner you can have him seen, the better.

Sadly, illness never happens at a good time; it is necessary to save up from the moment you get guinea pigs to be able to afford vet care. In Britain, many vets will allow a payment plan, but not in other countries.

Thank you :) we brought him to the vet yesterday and it turns out it was a uti. The cost was surprisingly low and he even got vaccines and medication for only about 70$. He's doing much better

Hi, I think my piggy has a UTI too...I've noticed that her pee has a slight red tinge and she also urinated a milky white substance a few days ago. Other than that, she's been acting normal, eating, drinking, popcorning, running around her cage in circles. However if I do notice that she pees blood, then should I just get her Baytril knowing for sure that it's a UTI or do I have to get her urine tests first? And I don't have a good exotic veterinarian where I live so... yeah. I would really love some feedback and your opinions on how to go about it. Thank you, all help is appreciated!

Hi, I think that my guinea pig might have a UTI because she urinated a milky white substance a few days ago and I noticed redish/pinkish tinge pee in her cage. Other than that, she's acting normal. Eating, drinking, popcorning, running around her cage in circles. However, if I do notice pain while she pees and more blood in her urine, should I get her on Baytril without taking her to the vet for urine tests because I dont have a good exotic veternarian where I live so...yeah. I just really want your guy's feedback/opinion on how I should go about it. Thank you and all help appreciated!

Enrofloxacin (Baytril) is a 'Prescription-Only Medicine - Veterinarian (POM-V)' - POM-V medicines can only be prescribed by a veterinarian.

Please see a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis/prompt treatment.

I agree with the above, always best to have them checked over to make sure it's not something else.

Guinea-pigGaga and Kerrie74, thank you! I'll just have to search for some exotic vets near me then and then see what she has. :) =D
