In the great piggie cage(okay okay Kent)
Me and my mum were feeding the pigs and she was putting some fresh hay in when she noticed some blood near the hay rack. I remember once we found a few ants in their outdoor run. Could these problems be connected and is this serious? They are both sow teenage piggies so could it be... umm piggie periods?

There is usually no blood when a sow comes in season every 15-17 days. Sows can get pregnant from 4 weeks onwards for their whole life; there is no menopause. Boars can start as early as three weeks old and never stop, either. That is the reason why we ask people to please never mix the two genders unless one is neutered.

However, very occasionally, a little one off bleeding can happen in sows. Please see a vet if you find new blood.

My last guinea pig Candy once bled after being outside but I put this down to her stepping on a sharp twig or something similar. I was really alarmed at the time as she bled quit a bit. It might be that your pig got caught on something. I don't think they normally bleed during mating season - mine didn't. The only other time I saw blood was after she had just given birth and even then it wasn't a lot. I do hope you find answers and it doesn't happen again.

Heyo chummies!
My mum and me checked them over and they are fine! We also checked for any more blood and it turned out it was just a pee stain. What a relief!

ahhhhhhh do you mean when it's old pee and it's left like a darkish stain?

I'd still be careful............ just keep an eye out to be careful love :)
