I think these piggies wait until I come home from uni to be poorly.
They have all had a treat with hay filled paper bags when I got in, and loved it. Esme spent most of her time in the bag.
Popped out to the shops and noticed Esme seemed to be squeaking possibly? when urinating. So had her out, and she had a small dark patch in her fur.

Soon as she was back in she weed on the bed pad,and it looks like there is blood in it.

Have weighed her and she hasn't lost any weight since last week, I am going to have to go to the local vet tomorrow, who is great but I don't think is very experienced with GPs, but will check everything if her is unsure.

Can anyone give any advice?

Thanks xx

aww just been through similar with Oscar, found blood in his cage and got him Baytril and Metacam and touch wood had nothing for a week, hope Esme is ok.

Poor Esme, possibly a UTI. Blood in wee is always alarming... It does look watery blood though from that photo - as in it's mixed with the urine as opposed to just blood, if that makes sense.

Sending lots of healing vibes to my favourite white piggie x x

This is the first time she has had blood in urine, she has had a previous uti which had no blood just weight loss. Hoping for UTI or cystitis which can be easily dealt with and not stones. *Fingers crossed*
@Sport_billy You mean your favourite ginger.

Sorry :red I read it as Rosie sorry, not Esme.

Poor Esme, bless her. Try not to worry, Treacle gets blood in her wee with her cystitis. Let us know how she gets on.

At the vets now. They have an open surgery on a saturday and so far there are 7 dogs in front of me.
Think it's going to be a long wait. x

oh bless her. Bertie has similar problems, but if it is only slight I usually give him lots of cucumber and things to make him wee, then put probiotics in his water....let us know how you get on

Treating as simple infection. Couldn't feel any stones etc, on baytril 0.25ml twice daily and metacam. The metacam just says dose for 1kg daily so not sure what to give. x

It depends on which metacam you have I think. We have the dog metacam (1.5mg / ml) & the daily dose for our 1kg pig was the same as for a 6kg dog on the metacam dosing syringe. This is due to the difference between how the metacam works in a guinea's body vs a dog's body. Guineas apparently need much more than dogs to get the same effect even though they are much smaller! This advice was from our exotics vet but I would encourage anybody to get their own vet advice rather than rely on this :)

Glad to hear it's likely to just be an infection klee :)

Last time she had a uti we were advised by piggy vet to give 0.45ml, so have given that for now. As I found the metacam syringe really hard to use. The one we have is the cat one.

Esme has done nothing but stuff her face since we got back so her appetites still there. X

Good that she still has a good appetite :) I always find that's the first thing to go when they are feeling really poorly so wanting to eat is a great sign.

Hope she feels much better soon! One of mine has chronic bladder issues, so I feel for you!

Lots of healing vibes to Esme x x x
