Hey guys, my guinea pig Gizmo well yesterday when i was checking on him i was cleaning his little house out when i noticed some red on the shavings so i took it as he had urinated blood and there was quite a bit of it but ive not noticed any since what could this mean? thank you for your help

It could just be the shavings change colour, i've had this before, otherwise it could be staining from fruit/veg he has eaten, best way to tell would be to have him out for a while on a white towel, then if there is blood present get him seen by a vet, also listen out to see if he makes any noises while peeing or pooing.

I hope its just a coincidence. x

Thank you... its really red so thats what made me think it was blood and my boyfriend said hes probably eaten something and it caught his belly and made him bleed inside a llittle but I'm keeping my eye on him now as he really worried me =( thank you =) xx

Aw, try not worry, shavings do change colour when they get wet, depends what ones they are, best way to tell as i said is the white towel trick, then you'll know for sure. x

Ive never noticed his shaving chamge to bright red thats what made me wonder you see it was only that particular spot they turned red too... i have him out now on a white towel soo ill see =) thank you for your help knowing my luck he wont wee haha xx

He hasnt weed ive noticed he hasnt all morning i cleaned him out this morning and theres nothing in his cage or little house =/

Oh dear, has he been eating and drinking? Has he done any poo's? x

Oh my goodness....sorry to hijack this thread but I am spent all morning worrying about my little girl and blood in urine (having lost two to stones in the last two years) and I just remembered they had red peppers yesterday and today and I am pretty sure thats what it is.....thank goodness! I go into a blind panic with blood in urine and did not think sensibly....thank you.

I do hope your piggy is as simple to fix x

Oh dear, has he been eating and drinking? Has he done any poo's? x

Hes drinking and eating plenty =) he will only eat carrots and celery he wont eat any other veg he likes his wagg too =) hes done plenty of poos ive noticed one wee so far I'm going to check on him again in a minute and look round his cage see if anymore is in there is this serious?

How often does he have carrots? These should only be given occasionally as they have a high calcium content and high calcium cause bladder stones and a sign of this is blood in urine, i'm not saying that is what this is so dont worry i'm not trying to scare you. x

My boy Bubbles has been doing little pink wees on and off for a week now, sometimes they're pink, sometimes they're not! He went to the vet for the second time last night and is today having an xray for bladder stones.

I think you should get your piggy checked out by a vet, just to be sure, I know how worrying it can be.

Her hasnt passed blood since that once... they did xray him few weeks back and found nothing =) thank god hope your guineas ok =)... he has a carrot 2wice a week only little ones though cause he tends to waste them lol x
