Esko is a neutered male (4yrs and has been totally healthy so far) that suddenly has developed blood inside his eye. The amount of blood is maybe 1/4 of the eyeball, sitting on the bottom of it. Amount hasn’t changed in a couple of hours since we noticed it. His behaviour is normal, eating etc. The eye is not at all cloudy or swollen and no scratched visible. He has been given Metacam and eye infection drops (just in case). I think we’ll have to wait until Tuesday if his behaviour stays normal and the eye doesn’t turn cloudy or swell because Easter out-of-hours vet doesn’t know anything about guinea pigs.. can you help me figure out what this could be in case we have to go to a vet that doesn’t know a thing?

I have no experience of this in piggies but in humans it' usually a result of blunt trauma to the eye. Painkillers and time should sort it but watch for swelling of the eye and cloudiness.

Thank you everyone! He is still doing ok so we’ll wait for it to clear up and keep giving pain meds.
