Things seem to be going rather wrong at the moment :( I've noticed a few little pink spots on the fleece this evening - they are pretty small but I'm rather worried, particularly since the pigs have been on a no-veg diet since earlier in the week due to Widget's poops being all sorts of shapes and levels of squisiness. I'm guessing it's her but to be honest, I'm not 100% sure.

They've all been drinking but I've given them all some cucumber chunks (which hopefully won't set Widget off again) and guess I'll be making a call to the vet first thing...

Do these look like the start of something horrible? :(

Mmmm. It's hard to tell. Piggy wee can turn quite brown as it oxidises, which is natural. Blood in the urine isn't always visible either. You could try getting a sample from the suspect (sit the pig in a plastic container and let nature take it's course). You can then have a look to see if there is any pink in it. I could be the start of a bladder issue, but a vet visit is needed, if only to put your mind at rest.

I agree with @Elwickcavies that it is very difficult to decide whether it is just strongly oxidised pee or whether it contains blood.

It is not helped by the fact that blood can present in pee without colouring it whereas you can have very reddish pee and not get a trace of blood in a urine test. I have been there with piggies of mine! :mal:

I would recommend that you keep an eye on things for the moment and if necessary see a vet.

Thank you ladies :) There were three tiny spots that were quite bright pink in colour, but no more this morning.

I have started re-introducing veg (just cucumber for now) after Widget's upset tummy, so hopefully the extra fluid will help flush anything through. I've also added some Avipro to their water bottles and put in a bowl of plain water. Will definitely be keeping my beadies on her though, and any more signs then we're off to the vet :(

Gaaaah :( No more pink /red spots but we're back to the squishy poops again :( Just made an appointment with my local cavy-savvy vet for Thursday, but if it gets any worse before then I'll get an earlier one with whoever's available. Poor Widget, I feel like such a useless mummy!

A bit hit and miss. They were fine this morning but I hadn't fed any veggies since yesterday morning. I gave them all a bit of cucumber and pepper this morning so I guess I'll find out the consequences when I get home from work... :soz:

Well, I've seen worse...

There has obviously been a poo party going in today :)) In amongst Pixel and Thor's offerings were a few clumps of not overly sticky but quite oddly shaped Widget-poops. I put probiotic in both water bottles and the bowl today and left a few FibaFirst sticks around the cage before I left for work. Will give them a bit of baby leaf salad for dinner and see how that goes down.

Took Widget to the vet today (with paw-holder Pixel). He had a good look over her, felt all round her tummy, checked her teeth, heart and stomach noises and asked lots of diet questions. Basically, she seems to be perfectly healthy so it's all a bit perplexing!

Over the last few days, Widget's poops have been slowly returning to normal (still not quite there, but much improved). Given that this has happened a few times before and that it's not a constant problem, the vet isn't too concerned. We talked about it perhaps being related to changes in hay like dodgy batches, and also that she could just be a stressed out piggy-wig, which could upset her tummy.

I'm going to continue with the probiotic, which has been in their water for the last few days; he said it wouldn't hurt to make this a permanent thing.

I bet that is reassuring dear. That's what our vet said about when we had funny shaped poops. Although it was due to stress in the end. You're doing a very fine job monitoring them all :)

poor old worried Widget. Still it's a relief there is no obvious nasty reason for her misshapen poops. Hope she continues firming up!
