Tommy had a bladder stone removed 6 weeks ago and was on antibiotics afterwards for possible infection, along with painkillers and supplements for cystitis. His pee looks like it had blood in it - at one point it definitely did since I saw him do a pee and it was red straight away as he was urinating.
This week I put a drop of the now clear urine on a blood test and it came back negative. However, the puppy pads still have lots of red/brown stains every time I get home and i'm worrying that either the urine blood test was wrong or my other piggie is now having issues! Can anyone shed light on whether they think these are blood stains or oxidisation of the urine? Photos of fresh urine in syringe, after some time on the plate, and then after 10 hours on the puppy pads!

It looks a bit like oxidation to me. If you are concerned can the vet check his urine and your other piggie to rule out any problems x Hope your piggies are ok x

Hi! That is just normal oxidisation. Blood has a different specific weight to water/urine and separates out when it dries. In small quantities, it dries as reddish dots in a pee puddle and in large ones as a red ring around a puddle in a different colour. ;)
