Tallulah may be having her spay tomorrow if the vet still advises it over hormonal injections as some of you may know already - but I was just wondering if it is really important for them to have blood tests before hand?

I did with Gypsey but it shot the price right up, and money is tight right now due to unforeseen payouts! But of course I will get them done if its advised and important..

Any advice on this?

Put simply, I am not aware of any point at all in getting blood tests prior to a spay. Did the tests Gypsey had prior to her surgery give any information that was useful to the vet?

I cannot see any point in a blood test if the pig is fit.
I believe it is common practice in the USA but not here in England.

Nope I dont think he did, he just said the blood tests were all clear etc. I think I was the one who told him to do them, because I swear I saw somewhere it was important to make sure theres no underlying problems but now I cant find where it says it anywhere, and thinking maybe I was just being over cautious...

To be honest I may have seen it done on Guinea Lynx then, thats mainly USA based. I wont put her through it then - she isnt the kind of pig to cope well with stress so I want her put through as little as possible.

Thanks both of you!
