My piggy, Bunny, is having a bit of soft poo/runny poo (not watery but paste like) for the past couple of days. I have had to give her a bath 2x in 3 days because of it. Now she has always had a gassy stomach for about 2 to 3 years or so and she usually have this scenario from time to time and we know how to treat it. Early January this year she had an operation for a supposed ovarian cyst but it turned out as not the case but instead an enlarged lymph node because of stomach ulcers (I posted about it here last month). She was treated for that with Baytril. This is the first time that she is having the poops again after all that.

Anyway, we took her to the vet this afternoon to get some meds and for a checkup just in case there's a lump again. Apart from the usual gassy stomach, there is no lump like what they felt in the past. Now my problem is everytime she pee, there is a spot of blood. My husband says it's just that she is straining when pooping and there probably is a bit of tear in the butt like what us human sometimes would have in the same scenario. I'm insisting on taking her to the vet again but he said it's nothing and that I'm just always thinking of negative things. He said if it's blood in urine, the whole pee would be red/pinkish. It's not, just a spot of red around the middle of the pee. When I looked at Bunny's bum, there is a trace of blood.

Here's the photos of it. Take note that Bunny is still eating and the usual self, apart from a slight lost of weight because of the poops (around 30-40g less than usual weight).

Awww poor Bunny

That's a vet visit I am afraid. Could be a little bit of a UTI possibly.

Any crying when weeing?

No crying when weeing. I'm worried coz we had a guinea pig in the past that had uti and bladder/kidney stones. Deedee used to cry when peeing and her pee was really pink. But Bunny isn't like that.

We'll bring her to vet on Saturday. We'll monitor her in the next couple of days (poops are formed now but still soft) and we are stuck at the moment in the house anyway because of this flipping snow. :hb:

Thanks guys!

Update:

We've just been to the vet. Our main roads are clear but the village is full of snow so I had to help hubby by shovelling the snow and pushing the car for more than 45 mins just so we can manage to get out! This is why I hate snow.

Anyway, Bunny started crying when weeing last night so we needed to take her immediately to the vet today instead of tomorrow. Hubby said it'll be worse because it'll be icy by then. Vet prescribed her with Baytril for a week. Hopefully it would fix the UTI and she doesn't have stones. When she had an x-ray on January before she had an operation, there wasn't any stones seen there. Fingers crossed she doesn't have it by now.

@Wiebke I was just wondering if blood in pee would take a long time to get rid of when treating UTI? Bunny is still peeing with blood. We started giving her Baytril on Friday. How long is the usual treatment for this takes? I used to have a piggy with UTI but she also had stones and other health problems so her treatment was different. Thanks in advance.

It's still early days, as it can take a few days for the antibiotic to kick in. Baytril really isn't the best antibiotic for dealing with UTI's though. Sulfatrim or Septrin would've been a far better choice.

Thanks for that Debbie. I know Septrin was what we used with Deedee in the past.

UTI can take 3-4 weeks to clear. It is still early days.

Thanks @Wiebke! I went back to the vet today to ask for a change of antibiotics, from Baytril to Sulfatrim, and they don't have it. The lady in the reception told me to wait for a call from the vet coz she will have to ask him/her about the antibiotics. If they can't get it, I may just ask them to supply a prescription so we can order it online. I know we used Septrin for Deedee's UTI in the past but they don't do it in liquid format now and just the tablets, which our local vets have.

Just an update on this.

We took Bunny to the vets this morning for a scan because there are still blood on her pee at times. They found out she had 2 stones in her bladder measuring 4.1mm. So she's going to have an operation to remove it tomorrow. Just worried about it coz we are going on a holiday overseas Saturday next week. :(

The only thing you can do is delay the op till you come back. Bunny may need a lot of care when she comes home. Who is talking care of them when your away. Are they guinea pig savvy, would they be there to care for Bunny 24/7

Our holiday is in America and we have booked it last year so it's quite late to cancel everything. We'll be gone from 8-22 April so quite a long time and operation must be done quickly. We usually let them stay at my in-laws' whenever we go on holiday but not now with Bunny's condition.

We found and booked a guinea pig savvy boarding in Manchester and they have their own guinea pigs so they know how to do after care for such things. They even told me that they would even take Bunny to our vets in Birch Heath, Tarporley if needed. It's just really wrong timing (it always is with us usually) again. :(

Update:

Well Bunny didn't get the operation today. We have to take her to Cat & Rabbit on Tuesday instead. The only thing that stopped us with our current vet is the cost. It was too expensive and we won't be able to pay it (cost of 2 flight tickets to America!). We booked her to Cat & Rabbit for an op on Tuesday (the easter weekend didn't really help our current situation). Good thing Bunny already has a record at Cat & Rabbit. They only needed to get all her records at Birch Heath.

Update:

We've just been to Cat & Rabbit Clinic in Northampton today for a supposed operation but Simon decided to do a bladder wash instead and managed to remove the stones. The photo below is the 2 stones (they are stuck together) next to a 5p coin. Simon said we just have to see what happens next, whether it comes back or not. A big relief for us that Bunny didn't have to be operated on.

She's resting now but she managed to eat earlier. I had to hand feed her and hopefully she's back to normal tomorrow.
