It's definitely scary when pigs need surgery, and of course there are always risks, but I know there are many people on this forum with spayed pigs who came through completely fine. ((HUGS)) and hoping all goes well for Daisy!

Hopefully someone whose pigs have had this surgery can come by and offer more advice. I personally haven't had to spay any of my pigs, but have had pigs who needed abscess removals under general anesthesia and dental surgery under general anesthesia do very well with their procedures. I even had two little hamsters who had several general anesthesia procedures and recovered just fine!

I had a girl - JoJo who had an emergency spay in 2022 as her ovarians cysts burst and I was extremely worried when she went under but she came through it fine. She did have a little issue afterwards where some of the stitches didn't dissolve as they should have but that eventually healed.
She needed painkillers and a little help from me with top up feedings of critical care. It gave us another 8 months with her and for that I am grateful.

Good luck with your girl x

I have had sows spayed.
Yes, it is a risk, as with all surgery, but they all came through fine.
It’s an anxious time for us though.
Holding you in my heart ❤️

Hi, I have three girls and they have all had ovariectomys as they had ovarian cysts. This is the removal of their ovaries only (not a full spay) and they’ve all bounced back quickly. What helped me come to this decision was confirmation from an ultrasound scan, not blood work. It’s an anxious time as a piggy owner but things that helped included bringing their companions along on surgery day (the company perks them up faster) and syringe feeding Emeraid Intensive Care Herbivore post-surgery and lots of grass to get them eating again. I hope it all goes well for Daisy, she’s adorable!
