Hi everyone,

I have 2 male guinea pigs, and just now I noticed that one of my guinea pigs was trying to groom himself. But while doing this, I noticed a black 'scab', and a bit of blood on the fur next to the scab.

Unfortunately my photograph didn't show the scab, but I would say it is just about the size of a 5p coin.

What do I need to do? :( do I need to take him to a vet? I have a feeling that he may have been bitten or scratched by the other guinea pig, so I may need to separate them?

They've lived together for about 1 month and although there was the occasional fighting, it has never gotten to a point where blood was drawn. Do you think that maybe my guinea pig kept biting himself to clean or itch or something which lead to blood being drawn?

Thanks,
John.

Please have the boy vet checked; it can be fungal or mites more likely than a bite wound, but it is impossible for us to diagnose. Treating on spec can make the problem worse. If it is one of the two, you will need to treat both boys to prevent the second one to come down with it, too.
