Hello

Today when I was giving the pigs some food I saw about 3 different very tiny areas of dried blood. It drove me into a panic and I checked the pigs, they seem alright and don't seem in pain, there has been no change in behavior either. I will book an appointment with my vet but I doubt she will be able to find anything, as she is not piggy savvy, but all I can do is hope. Has anyone else had this happen? There isn't anything in their cage they could of cut themselves on. I hope everything will be alright. :(

Hi! Are you sure that it is blood and not tomato juice or coloured pee?

If in doubt, observe your piggies. See a vet if you see dark red pees (they are porphyrine, not blood) and discomfort when peeing or pooing; these are the typical symptoms of the onset of a urinary tract problem.

The fleece is brand new from yesterday, and they haven't had tomatoes for a week or so. The spots are very small and red, none of their pee has ever dried like that so I do believe it is blood. :soz:
I will observe the piggies and see if there is any more blood by tomorrow.
Their nails are due for a trim maybe they got cut from a sharp nail? Could that be a possibility?
Sorry if that sounds silly, i just want to find some reasons to calm my nerves.
Thanks for the advice

I suggest a vet visit for your piggies. If you can’t find out which one is producing the blood, you can collect a urine sample from them by placing piggy in something clean and wipable (I use a clean washing up bowl), wait for then to wee and suck up the urine with a clean syringe. Place the sample in the fridge until your vet visit where your vet will test the urine for the presence of blood. Blood isn’t always visible to the nakid eye.

Alternatively, your vet may be able to get a urine sample by gently pressing on the bladder at the appointment (don’t try this yourself) but that will depend if your piggies have a full bladder or not

Thanks for the replies!
I have got an appointment with my vet for next week.
I will see if she is able too test the urine.
After the post I cleaned the fleece and there has been no more blood, but better safe than sorry!
