Hello all, my guinea pig S'mores (3-year-old boar) has been having gut issues. The vet just got back to me and said that his fecal test was negative. So no serious infection in his gut is causing the problem, so I still don't know what is causing his stomach trouble. They are suggesting bloodwork, but I have no idea how that will help, or how it works. I will talk to the vet, and ask questions.
Does anyone know the cost estimate? Has anyone had experience with piggie bloodwork?

Thank you so much!

You'll have to ask the vet for a cost analysis... all vets set their own prices so it can vary greatly between practices. Ask what the cost of the blood draw and the analysis will be from the vet or front desk staff directly. As for getting blood, it's just like taking blood from a person... they will find a vein (in a small animal it's more likely to be from the neck than the leg, thought), and they will draw blood. You can ask the vet their procedure, I wouldn't think anesthesia would be needed.

Yes, I will ask the vet for prices. Thanks so much!
