if a one year old female has slight dry blood around her vagina area, what is the main thing you would associate with this? I noticed Daisy had a small amount around hers last night, I'll check her again tonight when I get home from work. thanks.natasha

Cystitis is the most common. But a wide variety of problems can lead to this symptom - for example it could also be a surface wound or bleeding from the anus.

Hope Daisy is ok.

If in doubt i would go for a vets visit to put your mind at rest!

thanks for the replies - i can see these few months are going to be a with ill gps etc, exactly as last year :-( I'll check on her again tonight and if the same will get to vets first thing.

My Connie (r.i.p) had blood around her vagina when she had her bladder problems. I would suggest a vet visit. If you can, try and take a urine sample with you as this can then be checked for blood in the urine xx

i thought I might have been ok with Daisy- had been checking her everyday to see if any more blood, but nothing at all, but tonight she has a bit down there again. I'll get her to the vets as soon as i can. its just typical cos of xmas we dont get paid for 6 1/2 weeks so i am skint until next week, but i know she has to go! alcesterpigs if it is uterine discharge what can the vet do for her?

The 3 or 4 sows I have had with this problem did not need any treatment, the condition cleared without any intervention. One sow shed the complete uterine lining, it was the texbook "Y" shape. (It was not a miscarriage.)

There is another possible cause. Does she have an ovarian cyst? These can rupture and the contents expelled.

maybe it is ovarian cyst, I'm not sure - I'll take her to the vets Saturday as I dont have any transport until then. Is there anyway of telling myself if she has this or what would the vets do to see if it is ovarian cysts? sorry for the questions!

Ovarian cysts can be felt as a fairly hard lump or lumps at the side of the abdomen. They usually, though not always, affect both ovaries.

thank you alcesterpigs, that's very helpful. She shall be going to the vets Saturday, but I just wanted to ask you, so thank you!

Alcesterpigs - I had a good gentle feel around her abdomen and couldn't feel a thing, not one lump or anything - I double checked, but nothing. I just dont want to turn up to the vets saturday and they say they dont know what it could be - we only have 3 vets by us and 2 of them we have used but they dont have the knowledge of gps and I end up telling them what could be wrong myself so we are trying this other one.

We took Daisy to the vets this morning - he had a good feel on the tummy and down below - he said he couldn't feel anything hard or worrying - he thinks she might have cytistis (spelling) - she hasn't any any blood now for a few days again, so we are going to try her the baytril and if it doesn't clear up, then we'll investigate further.
