Just put the piggies out for first time in our new house (moved her January). The tree has only just started to blossom and previous owner didn't mention what it was.. I assume its a blossom tree.. Just had a panic though that the flowers may not be suitable for the Guinea pigs.. Anyone know if they are okay?

I can probably identify the tree for you, but it would help if you could post a close up shot of one of the branches showing the shape of the leaves and flowers.

It's possibly an apple? Looks like it's blossom & leaves... The trunk doesn't look apple'y though?
If it is an apple tree, they can eat the fruit, leaves & branches, so I guess the blossom should be ok, if they don't eat it off the floor they're probably best not to have it.

I have what I think is a plum in my garden, guineas arent supposed to eat the plum fruits as they have stones in them. So I wouldn't risk it. DSC_1335.webpDSC_1338.webpBut it doesn't look quite the same as yours though!?

I don't thinks it's a plum tree I have one one of those in my garden and the blossom isn't the same. Could it be a pear tree? My lot devour the occasional pear as a treat so if it is a pear tree I guess the blossom would be OK.

It looks very much like an apple or pear, but as they are often grafted onto different root stock it is hard to be 100% certain.

If it is a stone fruit (plum, cherry) then they can't have the leaves or branches.
If it is an apple or pear they can.

Right now the odd leaf of flower landing in their run during lawn time is not likley to be a problem, but wait until it fruits so you can be certain about feeding the leaves and branches.

I have a cherry blossom tree in my garden. When the blossom starts to fall I brush the lawn before putting out the piggy runs. My piggies have never seemed to eat it, but also thought best to remove it and make sure. Bit of a pain but it's only for a few weeks.xx
