Blue Eye

I recently rehomed a 6 month old piggy. I noticed when I got him that he had one blue eye, I didn't really think much of it at the time. I have recerched a little since and some information has come up that he could be blind in that eye, or it could be linked to the lethal white gene. Does anyone have any expirence or knowledge of this? Many thanks

If you're able to post a picture it might be easier for us to suggest ideas. Sometimes a hay poke or foreign object in the eye can cause it to cloud over with a blue'ish tinge to it if its ulcerated.

photo would be good, but I think I would take him to the vets to get it checked out. Eyes are very fragile &if its damaged it will need treatment. Probably with eye drops &he may need some painkillers if it is damaged too.

Lethal piggies are usually white. Often they are smaller than the average piggie, more likely to have dental issues ,smaller or no eyes &deafness. But with
little extra TLC they can live full &happy lives.

Are both of his eyes the same or is it just the one that's blue?
Cataracts also seem quite common generally on here. Although I'm sure there must be other suggestions others can come up with.
Have a look on the recommended vets tool for a cavey savvy vet if your not confident of your current vet or if you haven't found a good local one yet.

Thank you for the advise. I'll organise a vet trip for him. I've only had him a few days so I don't know if he has had any trauma or foreign body in it.
He has some grey on him and is a good size.

It sounds like a hay poke to me too as @GPTV has said. The vet will put a green dye into the eye which will show up any damage and then prescribe drops if so.
 
Hi, thank you for all advise I took Neville for a check on Monday and his eye is fine, but is smaller than the other one. The blue colour is a lack of pigment around the pupil. They checked for trauma and no sign of any damage or any cataracts. I'm really glad I got it checked it has put my mind at rest. :-)
