Blue Tinge Around Lips On Guinea Pig

They do hide pain and illness. Would your mum call the emergency vet now and describe the symptoms? Then the vet can decide if it is urgent.

they hide pain and illness so well that once you notice symptoms, they have probably been ill for a while. so a vets visit is recommended asap. weighing weekly can help as weight loss is often the first sign of something wrong.

even if the appointments are booked up, they will have extra for emergencies. you will have to insist that he is seen and cannot wait.

let us know how you get on. x

I agree with Piggyfan.

I do think an adult needs to be there for them to dispense medication but I am not too sure.

I have 6 pigs with heart issues and they are all on daily medication of an ACE Inhibator called Benazapril and occasional diuretic called Furosemide. If Cookie's breathing is loud and his lips are blue I suspect he may have some fluid on his chest or around his heart and so would need diuretics. It may be though that if he needs medication your vet may need to board him while you are away if your brother is not confident giving medication. I know you are a minor but could you confirm a rough location (i.e. county) in case one of us can help.

I know your country is England but please could you confirm your county.

Please don't worry. We will not tell anybody. Could you take a picture of cookie please?

We won't tell anyone, would never have asked for your town, it was just in case another forum member was nearby who could have helped with vet visits, giving Cookie any medication etc.

i know.i'm just not spossed too as its my mum's rule.

I understand that. Maybe your Mum could come on here at some point and we can explain why we are worried about Cookie.

Whereabouts are you in the UK please.

Provided he is still mobile/eating etcYour guinea pig definitely needs to see vet. in the next few days.

@Pebble thanks.Turns out my mum does have a day off work. So and my mum are hopefully going on Thursday

Update on cookie: He was sitting in the corner and didn't let me touch him, he would run around when ever I tried to touch him (he normally is sitting near the front).

With the picture i'm just charging my camera then getting a picture it was hard to tell what the blue stuff was but I knew he didn't have it before (and sometimes my eyes play tricks on my mind when i'm not wearing my glasses as I don't have my new ones yet)

That's good your Mum is off tomorrow, however, please reconsider Pebble's offer as you are going on holiday and am sure your 17 year old brother will not be happy at having to give medication twice daily if that is what the vet suggests. Pebble would give you peace of mind while you are away that your pig is being looked after and medicated correctly.

Here are the pic (it was hard to take the picture the camera didn't focus probably so you might not be able to see the blue stuff)

It's really difficult to tell. my Nigel used to get a blue tinge if he needed his heart meds tweaking but it doesn't necessarily look like that. Glad you have a vet appointment though with the fact that his breathing is noisier than normal too.

He's really cute.
