Hi,
My guinea pig pepper is 3 years old and I have just come home to notice that her eye is blue again and watery. She has had this 3 times before. The first time we took her to the vet and the vet told us to clean it, the next 2 times we cleaned the eye with warm water and within a couple of days it got better. However, this time it looks a little worse. It doesn’t seem to be causing her pain, however she does try to itch it a couple of times. I’ll attach a picture. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

When one of my boys had an eye that looked like that, he had a hay poke, the vet checked under the eylids thoroughly to make sure no hay seeds were caught inside. He then put in a dye and saw a large ulcer so he was put on antibiotic eye drops and it cleared up in no time.
I would say to take Pepper to the vet to get it thoroughly checked out.

Thank you! Yes I think she has hay poke as she has had it before. I have rung the vet and the earliest appointment they have is Wednesday. What should I do until then to help her eye?

Please have your guinea pig checked out for a hay poke or something stuck under the lid. Your piggy will need antibiotic eye drops to clear the ulcer. The procedure is as @Piggies&buns has described.

Please feed any stalky timothy hay in a rack and use only soft meadow hay for piggies to sit and burrow in. This helps to reduce the risk of hay pokes.

Sorry to hear about this.
I can relate because I went through similar situation where one of my pet had an eye infection and had to be seen by an exotic vet, and the earliest appointment they gave me was a couple of days away, which was the worst. I lost sleep while waiting for an appointment a couple of days away. I wanted an exotic vet for my hamster.
