I know my little boys wont like it but thankyou for the video, maybe next time Mojo could get that fuzzy effect over his face so that his freinds dont recognise him.

Thank you so much for that demo. I have 2 boys and appreciate such a clear guide. Mojo is so fluffy, adorable and well-behaved.

Aw mojo is such a well behaved little boy! My girls make that whining sound when I trim their nails!

What would you use in the uk to replicate mineral oil?

Aww what a good boy. Just a bit of complaining but otherwise sitting there.

I have one boar who absolutely reaks. I'll have to try this on him because I've been trying to clean the smell away but its just constantly there, some times worse than other times. I just hope I can do it as he hates anyone near his bum.

I would like to know that too....or can you get mineral oil in the uk?

I believe Mineral oil is called liquid paraffin in the UK but I'm not 100% sure on that. :)

I had girls and never had to clean them. Boars have glads to scent mark (which is why they get lots of gunk up there). But I have heard from others that IF a girl is gunky there to clean it out but its not normal. In fact its very rare. Boars drag their bums to scent mark, thus causing hay, bedding (if your not using fleece) and hair up there. Its a stinky job but someones got to do it.

I've also read that cleaning it can prevent impactions but I have never had to deal with that issue so I am not 100% sure it does. I do it to maintain a healthy "down stairs".

I've never done this for my boy, I've never heard of it before! I'm slightly worried about having to, he seems perfectly fine but of course, appearances can be deceiving...

This is brilliant thank you!

I always check my guinea pigs willys to make sure they are clean and wash their grease glands etc but am ashamed to say I have never cleaned their anal sacks like this :red

Carrot has been rather smelly the last couple of days and I am pretty sure its bottom related so I will make sure I clean his sack really well before his bath tomorrow - I'm sure he will be pleased :))

Any idea where I can get mineral oil from? (in UK)

Whoa, i never knew you have to do this! Thanks for video link, it really helps.
:laluot_26:

By the way, is this the mineral oil you have to use? I live in the UK so i'm kinda unsure? {:|

Having had a look online I believe that Liquid Paraffin is mineral oil. You can get this from most chemists

Woah. Having just got a boar....this is daunting! Great video and I'll probs have my laptop propped up in the bathroom somewhere so I can be copying lol

oooh hello stranger :(|)x>> lovely to see you again!

Thanks for the demo Mojo XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I agree his ickle face needs to be pigsalated so nobody recognises him ;)

do you have to use mineral oil, is it possible to use other oils like vegetable oil or something? thanks

For those inexperienced with boars' bits, cleaning of the anal sac is something that may be needed occasionally for some but not all boars - more frequently for those suffering from impaction.

A quick feel of the anal area should feel like there's a soft sultana in there, if it's harder or larger then a clean out may be necessary. A marble sized lump means a clean out that should be quite straight forward, a golf ball sized lump is more difficult and more important to do with a lot of care (breaking the lump up with cotton buds so it comes out in pieces rather than a solid lump).

Mineral oil is also known as baby oil in the UK, this is the only oil I would recommend using to help break down the adhesion between lump of poo and skin, gently prising the poo away. If the adhesion does not come away easily apply a few drops of oil in the sac and allow to soak for 24 hrs before trying again. Using too much force can tear the delicate skin of the anal sac.

Once cleaned out a cotton bud dipped in baby oil and rubbed around the inside of the sac will help prevent a build up happening to quickly again.

Oh my god i cannot believe how well behaved your piggy is! If i try and sit ditto up like you have your pig in the video he goes berzerk wiggling around and squeeking at the top of his lungs ans teeth chatters at me ") do you have any tips for trimming nails without a battle of wills ?! Can you do a seperate thread for nail trimming tips?

my girls used to go nuts with the trimming.. just wriggling around.. I find loooong stalks of coriander keep them pretty still for a while. The thicker the long thing the better as it takes them longer..

I don't how to reword that :x

hi,
i have tryed this a couple of days ago and this morning , i followed the video but nothing seems to be on the ear bud, merlin seems to just try and wriggle out of it and went for my oh what can i do differently ?
