Hello. My two boars of unknown age, have lived happily together for the past 18 months, never a problem. I checked on them today, to find that Biscuit had attacked teddy quite badly. He’s been to the vet, wound cleaned and been advised to clean it 3 times a day with sea salt water, he’s on septrin twice a day. I feel devastated that this has happened. Has anyone else had boars suddenly just turn on each other? Was wondering if anybody had any advice on the best way to clean the wound. Thanks Ali xx

Hi and welcome

Poor Teddy - that looks nasty!

Please keep your boys separated from now on; they will never go back together. It is either that something has spooked Biscuit or that he is suffering from a hormone spike which can still hit young adult boars after the end of the teenage hormones.

If you can get hold of another needle-less syringe from your pharmacy you can use this to flush the wound.
See your vet promptly if it the wound is starting to look inflamed/swollen/hot to the touch in the coming weeks/months. Guinea pigs have a lot of gunk in their mouths so there is always a certain abscess risk.

Please take the time to read these guides here:

What a rotten thing to have happened.
Hope Teddy's wound heals quickly.
you can't better @Wiebke 's advice.
Please keep us posted on how things go

I have seen a fair few boar fights.I agree you must clean the wound regularly. That looks a nasty wound.plan b needed to rehouse the boar.

Oh bless you and him. I can offer no advice but sending you and your boys a big hug 🤗 x

Thank you all for your advice and kind words, it’s much appreciated. The boys are separate for good. Teddy seems too be a lot better today, he’s eating properly again and the wound is looking scabby- so much better than it was. I’ll keep you updated on his progress, thank you again for all your help xx
