Hello!
I am new here - a 41yr old mum of two sons (9yrs & 4yrs) for whom we bought their first pets, piggies, on Sunday.
We had already bought and erected a 4ft hutch with a double run underneath for the new family additions as we wanted to keep them outside in our lovely sheltered garden in the countryside.
We took the boys to P@H as the local pet stores and breeders didn't have short hairs available - to choose their new pets. Lovely, they both chose the two boars (no emales available and I'd read that boars can be feisty but if no female around and from the same litter, should be ok).
We brought them home on Sunday evening, straight into hutch and from teh word go, Vanilla wouldn't let Jerry into the covered hutch side to sleep. Since then, things escalated in the behaviour from Vanilla who was very dominant ,to the point that today they were lunging at each other and constantly yawnkng, bearing teeth - not just he chasing/mounting thin - full on jumping at each other.
So we called the store and decided to take them back as Jerry was beginning to get very stressed by it too.
So, we've now brought home two boars who were cuddled up together in the tunnel in the store (the boys fell in love with the boars rather than the 2/3 females that were there). They seemed calmer. Have brought them home and they love their new cage, but are already staking out an dbeing a little terratorial with a bit of nipping and such - I am hoping however this is just the initial reaction and they are just being 'normal' males in their new home....
Phew.........I really hope they settle - they are so gorgeous and we love piggies now!
They are from a different litter to the first pair and are about 11 weeks old.
Any advice would be fab thanks - they are loving their veggies!
