My new baby boar doesn't seem to be able to keep his winkie in where it should be for any length of time. I've made sure it's all clean and nothing is stopping it retract (it goes in quite easily) and we have been to the vets who have said just keep putting it back in as often as possible for a few weeks to see if that helps. Has anyone any experience of this? The vet says if it doesn't stay in they may have to sew the sheath bit shut so it doesn't pop out but then there may be complications of urine getting stuck in his sheath and getting manky :(. He's a lovely boy and I feel awful that everytime I handle him I'm pushing his winkie in. His winkie itself is ok so far - no damage or swelling. Would love to hear if anyone has any advice.

Bumping for anybody with boars!

Same problem here with my boy, I just make sure its clean. Never tried to push it back in though :). I got him from a rescue and it's always been like that.

Would some lubrication maybe help? Something safe incase he eats it but slippy I have boars but never come across this.. is it his whole penis that is out? Ive had a couple of boys with a bit more sticking out than normal but not the whole thing....

I know its icky but if poss a picture may help? Hopefully someone else will come along soon to help better :)

I would suggest keeping him bedded on something that cannot get caught for the time being too, something like fleece maybe?

I've got boars, but have never come across this before. I would agree about the bedding though. Woodshavings may definitely cause him some problems, so something soft like fleece or vetbed would be a good idea

Thanks, I've been using KY Jelly  to lubricate things (you can see it on the fur in the pics and he's on vetbed and large chunks of cardboard. There's nothing stuck but when it's been out for a while it can get a bit dry so maybe that stops it going back in easily? I've got some pics:

Lovely boy...just wants to show it off... I think its only a worry if it becomes red and sore and the two "horns" start staying out - they are like little grappling hooks - seem to remember Wiebeke or Abinurse mentioning this a year or two ago.
