I haven't been on this page since the last of my girls died (the ones in my avatar) but a week ago we were guilted into adopting an unwanted 8 month old boar named Patrick. He seemed lonely, but I've never tried bonding boars, and was wary of it. But while shopping for needed essentials at Petsmart, we came across a boar that had been returned 6 months before, and no one wanted him because he was over a year and not a baby anymore. So Pepper came home with us. They're currently in separate cages, next to each other. Patrick has done a complete 180. He's not scared or shy anymore and popcorns all the time. We did a short intro, and Patrick just wanted to cuddle up to Pepper. I think it was a sensory overload for Pepper, he just sat quietly and wide eyed the entire time. We're going to take it slow, our C&C cage that is 5ft x 2.5ft with a loft will come Friday. Hopefully soon they will be able to share it harmoniously

Bonding is always a stressful time, but it sounds like it is going well for you to be honest. Have a read of this guide here, gives you an idea of what to look out for and if you have any issues please just ask Illustrated Bonding / Dominance Behaviours And Dynamics

Your boys are beautiful
Thanks, we think they're cute. We're just trying to get Pepper to warm up to us first. I don't think he spent much of his life outside of his tank at the store. He's fearful of everything and had no idea what lettuce was. I had to hold him and put a piece in his mouth. Once he realized it was delicious he went to town, but he'll only eat while I'm holding him. This is new to me. We'll give him space and hopefully he warms up soon.

Oh poor little Pepper. It's wonderful that you've given them both a home, hopefully they'll continue to get along and I'm sue Pepper will adjust in time and start to enjoy these strange new things in his life :)
It is such a wonderful feeling seeing them gain the confidence to enjoy life, and with all that space that you will be providing for them they have the best chance of being happy together x

They've been in their new cage for about 2 and a half hours now. It's going well. My husband got the wrong bedding, but we'll get the right kind in a bit. Patrick is surprisingly the alpha, he's been rumble strutting, teeth chattering and marking his scent. But Pepper is more than pleased to be submissive to him. I'm pretty positive that this will be a beautiful friendship, but I'll continue to keep an eye on them for the next few days. Pepper is also getting less fearful everyday. He even started popcorning the length of his new cage when I put in the filled hay racks. Yay!
