i read through that and saw about cleaning out there bum bits, and i've took a look at my pigs (due to chester becoming a bit smelly) and i really should give it a little clean theres alot of poo and straw in there that needs to be cleaned out.

I'm really nervous i'll do something wrong or hurt them, does anyone have any tips ?

Boars eh?!
I normally sit my boars on my knee, like a teddy bear if that makes sense, so everything is exposed and I can see. I use my thumb to gently manipulate the perinal sac to ease out debris etc and wipe at it gently with either some small animal wipes or a damp flannel. Don't soak the area just damp enough to clean and wipe away the yuckiness. If you can have some one hold your boar for you so you have 2 hands it will make it easier but my OH isnt keen lol so I've perfected the one arm technique ;)

All I would say is just be gentle with your wiping hand and firm with your gripping arm as they normally hate it but it will get minging real quick. It does stink foul but that's to be expected I'm afraid. I normally check mine once or twice a week. My eldest is 3 and just started needing this regularly, then i have 2 under a year old so they're ok and I'm keeping my eye on flinn as he's 2 in the summer but I personally find this needs regular attention after their first couple of years, but of course all boars are different and some muckier than others pow-pow

What I would do for my Todd was filling the sink in the bathroom with enough warm water for his bottom end to be covered while I held him up in it on his back paws. Then I'd swash the water around his bum and massage the muck out with my finger tips, opening his bits and pieces gently at the same time.

If you don't want to use your hands down there, I've also used cotton buds before which would do exactly as your fingers would, but they would be softer to the skin. Or cotton wool which would probably be better if this is your first experience, it shouldn't hurt him being so soft.

As said above, it does smell pretty bad but I've found doing it in a little warm water is best as it masks the smell enough that it won't make you choke :p

You may want to attempt in the bath first if he's a wriggler, just have a towel down so he doesn't attempt to move and slip under the water, had that happen to me before and the piggy wasn't best pleased :))

Oh yes I meant to add I've done it in the sink before in very shallow water and laid a flannel down so my pig wouldn't slip, that works well but I try to dry wash because Fuzzy gets EXTREMLY stressed in water.

Wish me luck ! Tomorrow there having a grease gland and bum clean out as well as a bath before being returned to a clean cage they will smell yummy me hopes ! Thanks for the help feel a little better about it now still not looking forward to it though

I must be extremely lucky, Barty and Stanley both lived to ripe ages and I never had to do it once for either of them. ;)

Boars!

They're lots of good tips and advice, I always find it easy to have two pairs of hands esp on your first go (and if you have a wiggly pig!) cotton buds are great,as are flannels or a cotton cloth make sure you go slowly and if the piggie is wiggling too much, stop and go back in half an hour. :)

Good luck!

TODAYS THE DAY !

Chester is quite good and actually quite likes sitting on his back sort of thing up against my chest, he looks like a teddy bear most of the time, my boyfriend doesn't seem to willing to go anywhere near his bum so i may be on my own, Bentley is quite wiggly but i think i'll just take my time, i have a box of cotton buds and a jar of the swarfger stuff at the ready, i think I'm going to owe them alot of veggies after this !
